Grand Jury

LISBON — An East Palestine man accused of trafficking and possessing methamphetamine in 2021 was served this week with a secret indictment issued by the Columbiana County Grand Jury.

Lee Givens, 36, East Taggart Street, was charged with aggravated trafficking in drugs and aggravated possession of drugs, both second-degree felonies, and a misdemeanor charge of illegal use or possession of drug paraphernalia.

The drug charges stemmed from Oct. 21, 2021 when Givens allegedly possessed and prepared for sale an amount of methamphetamine equal or greater than five times the bulk amount, but less than 50 times the bulk amount and possessed drug paraphernalia.

Also served recently with secret indictments were:

— Brittany Flowers, 33, Carmel Achor Road, Rogers, aggravated possession of drugs, a fifth-degree felony, for allegedly possessing methamphetamine on Dec. 28, 2022.

— Julie Lewis, 45, West South Range Road, North Lima, aggravated possession of drugs, a fifth-degree felony, for allegedly possessing methamphetamine on Oct. 29, 2022.

— Rick Willis, 33, West Washington Street, Lisbon, possession of fentanyl-related compound, a fifth-degree felony, for allegedly possessing fentanyl-related compound on Jan. 21.

— Terry Sonntag, 48, Etruria Street, East Liverpool, permitting drug abuse, a fifth-degree felony, for allegedly permitting property to be used for trafficking in drugs on April 18, 2022.

LISBON — A Salem man accused of trafficking and possessing methamphetamine and possessing cocaine in 2021 was recently sentenced to 36 months in prison.

David Boggs, 32, West State Street, appeared before Judge Scott Washam in Columbiana County Common Pleas Court to face his punishment for multiple drug charges. He entered guilty pleas in March to two counts aggravated trafficking in drugs and a single count of aggravated possession of drugs, all third-degree felonies, aggravated possession of drugs and two counts possession of cocaine, both fifth-degree felonies, and a forfeiture specification for money in a drug case. On July 16, 2021, the drugs involved included methamphetamine and cocaine and the forfeiture was for $180.

The sentence included 18-month terms for each of the third-degree felonies and nine months each for the fifth-degree felonies. The first count was consecutive to the rest, which were concurrent to each other, for a total of 36 months. He received credit for 29 days served, was ordered to forfeit the $180 and was fined $5,000.

Also in Common Pleas Court:

— Matthew Crowl, 44, Benton Road, Salem, pleaded guilty to possession of fentanyl-related compound, a fifth-degree felony, with sentencing set Sept. 8, for possessing fentanyl-related compound on April 19, 2022.

— Kirby Freed, 36, Hadley Road, East Palestine, pleaded guilty to aggravated possession of drugs, a fifth-degree felony, and was placed on an intervention plan for two years for possessing methamphetamine on March 24, 2022.

— Ahmed Alwishah, 66, Weirton, W.Va., was fined $3,250 and given a suspended jail term of 180 days for improper use of certificate of title, petty theft and two counts of tampering with records. He was ordered to permanently surrender the dealer motor vehicle licenses for himself and 3 Brothers Auto LLC. Alwishah improperly used a car title from Nov.5, 2021 to Dec. 29, 2021 and deprived a man of an $800 down payment. The records tampering dealt with titles from April 5, 2021 through Aug. 16, 2021.

— Kristopher Norton, 46, South Market Street, Minerva, was ordered to spend 30 days in jail, with credit for 21 days already served, after violating his probation for possession of drugs, a misdemeanor. His probation was dishonorably terminated. Norton possessed buprenorphine on Oct. 20, 2020.

— Kayla Macklin, 35, South Cross Street, Columbiana, was ordered to participate in drug court for a period not to exceed five years after pleading guilty to possession of cocaine, a fifth-degree felony, for possessing cocaine on May 8, 2022.

— Joey Jenkins, 52, Thornville, was placed on an intervention plan for three years after pleading guilty to aggravated possession of drugs, a fifth-degree felony for possessing methamphetamine on July 15, 2022.

— Louis Erlenbach, 64, Vale Street, East Liverpool, was placed on an intervention plan for two years after pleading guilty to aggravated possession of drugs, a fifth-degree felony, for possessing methamphetamine on March 7, 2022.

— Michael Gately, 36, Diamond, was placed on an intervention plan for two years after pleading guilty to a lesser offense of attempted aggravated possession of drugs, with a specification for money from a drug case. He was originally indicted for possessing methamphetamine on Sept. 9, 2021. He was ordered to forfeit $228.

— Kelly Reed, 33, whose address was listed as the county jail, was ordered to serve up to six months at the Eastern Ohio Correction Center in Lisbon after violating her probation for fourth-degree felony counterfeiting and misdemeanor petty theft. Her probation was continued until April 1, 2025. The charges stemmed from an incident Nov. 6, 2021 involving $53 worth of food at Pizza Hut.

— Dale Kinney, 44, last known address Pennsylvania Avenue, East Liverpool, was sentenced to seven months in prison for two counts of possession of cocaine for possessing cocaine on April 23, 2022 and Oct. 1, 2021.

— Luke Maola, 37, Lisbon Street, East Liverpool, was ordered to serve 31 days in jail after violating his probation for two counts of aggravated possession of drugs, a fifth-degree felony, for possessing morphine and oxycodone, both less than bulk amounts, on April 6, 2019. His probation was terminated.

— John Yerkey, 49, North Lima, was ordered to prison for 10 months after violating his probation for two counts of violation of a protection order, a fifth-degree felony. He received credit for 44 days already served in jail and his probation was dishonorably terminated. The charges date back to 2018.

— Ashley Croley, 37, Youngstown, was ordered to serve up to six months in the Eastern Ohio Correction Center in Lisbon after violating her probation for aggravated possession of drugs, a fifth-degree felony. Her probation was continued to Aug. 9, 2024. Croley possessed methamphetamine on Aug. 5, 2022.

— Charles Taylor, 57, Minerva, was placed on an intervention plan for two years after pleading guilty to aggravated possession of drugs, a fifth-degree felony, for possessing methamphetamine on Sept. 21, 2021. He was also ordered to forfeit $25.

— James Lamp, 48, Foundry Hill Road, Summitville, was placed on an intervention plan for two years after pleading guilty to aggravated possession of drugs, a fifth-degree felony, for possessing methamphetamine on June 1, 2021.
