A big game can change the whole weekend for an Ohio sports fan, especially once betting enters the picture. One promotion may still be active when the next rivalry starts, and the markets can change with the sport. Knowing what is available before kickoff can save plenty of head-scratching later.
Ohio sports fans are heading into the busiest part of the year. The Guardians and Reds still have baseball to play, Ohio State opens its football season on Sept. 5, and the Browns begin eight days later. For bettors, those dates bring different markets, different promotions and much more activity around games they were already planning to watch.
Big Games Give Ohio Bettors Natural Peaks in the Calendar
The Browns’ schedule gives you a pretty good idea of where some of those bigger betting days will fall. Cleveland opens at Jacksonville on Sept. 13 before returning home against Carolina on Sept. 27. Four days later comes the first obvious standout, with Pittsburgh visiting Cleveland for an 8:15 p.m. Thursday game.
That is the Browns’ only currently scheduled primetime appearance of 2026, and there is a little history behind it as well. Cleveland has won its last nine home Thursday night games, including four against Pittsburgh, and is 10-2 all-time at home on Thursday night.
The schedule keeps throwing up big local dates after that. Baltimore visits on Oct. 18, Pittsburgh gets the return game on Nov. 1 and Cincinnati comes to Cleveland on Dec. 6. The Browns then finish the regular season at Cincinnati in Week 18.
College Football Changes What Is Available to Bet
Buckeyes Saturdays bring a different betting menu from Browns or Bengals Sundays. Ohio permits wagering on NCAA events under set conditions, but individual college athlete prop bets are prohibited.
That means you can bet on Ohio State without seeing the same range of individual player propositions that you would get for an NFL game. Team-based wagers remain available where they meet Ohio’s requirements, so the betting experience changes with the sport even when the interest around the event is every bit as strong.
A Promotion Can Run Across Several Game Days
Promotions add another timing element, especially when several major games fall close together. The current new-customer offer linked to DraftKings starts with a minimum $5 deposit and a qualifying $5 wager at odds of -500 or longer. Once those terms are met, the $150 reward comes as six $25 Bonus Bets rather than one $150 credit.
The timing is useful to understand before a busy run of games. Two $25 Bonus Bets are released every seven days across 14 days through a click-to-claim process, and each batch expires seven days after it is issued. The first qualifying wager can win or lose without changing the $150 reward.
So a new customer qualifying around one major event may still have later $25 Bonus Bets available for another game the following weekend. With Ohio State playing Saturdays and the NFL following on Sundays, those separate release dates can run across several different game days rather than being tied to one afternoon.
That staggered setup also means the dates deserve a quick check before the first bet is placed. A bonus issued after one weekend could still be live for the next, but another may expire sooner. With several Ohio teams playing across the same fortnight, keeping track of each $25 credit becomes part of the deal.
DraftKings Is Seeing More Sports Betting Activity
The latest company figures put some scale behind that activity. In the second quarter of 2026, DraftKings recorded Sports Consumer Volume of over $13.1 billion, up from $11.4 billion in the same quarter of 2025. That was an increase of $1,6 billion, or 14.5%.
The same results showed roughly 3.6 million monthly unique payers, 9% higher than a year earlier. Sports revenue for the quarter came to $891 million with a 6.8% sports net revenue margin.
Those figures cover DraftKings’ wider sports business rather than Ohio alone, but they show the level of activity the sportsbook is carrying into another NFL and college football season.
Ohio Rules Create Different Game-Day Choices
The game itself also determines what you can actually bet on. Ohio generally permits wagers based on sporting outcomes and statistical results that can be verified through official records, but the college rules become much tighter once an individual athlete is involved.
An NCAA prop based on one player’s performance or statistics is not permitted in Ohio. Full-team college propositions can be offered only when they meet the state’s statistical test, which requires the result to have involved at least two players in more than 50% of outcomes across the most recent full NCAA season.
That creates a clear difference between an Ohio State Saturday and a Browns Sunday. NFL bettors can work with individual player markets that are unavailable for the Buckeyes, so the same fan may use the sportsbook differently from one day to the next.
Football Does Not Have the Calendar to Itself
August still belongs to baseball before the football schedule takes over. The Guardians and Reds both have weeks of regular-season play remaining, giving Ohio fans another set of daily games before Ohio State begins on Sept. 5 and the Browns follow on Sept. 13.
Basketball brings another run later in the year, particularly once Cavaliers games begin carrying more weight. Major-event betting in Ohio is therefore spread across the sports calendar rather than confined to a few NFL Sundays.
Ohio Fans Have a Long Run of Big Dates Ahead
The next few months give Ohio sports fans plenty to work with. Baseball carries the state through August, college football arrives in early September and Cleveland’s NFL schedule soon brings Pittsburgh, Baltimore and Cincinnati into the picture.
For bettors, each event comes with its own markets and timing. College rules alter what can be placed on individual players, NFL games open different choices and promotions can extend across several weekends. The sport changes, but the basic pattern is simple: the bigger the game on Ohio’s calendar, the more there is to consider before kickoff.
