Bartholomews celebrate 70th anniversary

Richard and Maxine (Smith) Bartholomew celebrated 70 years of marriage on October 15, 2021.

They were married at the Midway Mennonite Church by Pastor Paul Yoder. They began their married life in Columbiana. Later they moved to Youngstown and were involved in the Rockview Mennonite Church. In 1960, Richard was ordained as minister there. In 1968, they moved to North Lima where Richard became the pastor of the North Lima Mennonite Church. Later, he served as interim pastor in various Mennonite churches in Ohio and Pennsylvania. Maxine worked as a secretary, including South Range Middle School, Witmer’s Feed and Grain, Dr. Moskalik, Dr. Young and Dr. Nath. They retired from active Christian ministry from the Maple Grove Mennonite Church where Maxine was ordained to ministry and they served as co-pastors.

They are the parents of four children, Marilyn and Richard Carr of North Lima, Patty and Bob Piriak of Lisbon, Richard Jr. and Becky of Columbus and Jim and Pam of Kidron. They have 12 grandchildren and 26 great-grandchildren.

They celebrated their anniversary by attending the Sight and Sound Theater in Lancaster, Pennsylvania. The family celebrated by enjoying lunch together on Saturday, October 16, 2021. Their church enjoyed cupcakes to mark the occasion.
