Griffiths celebrating 65th year
SALEM — Mahlon (Junior) and Betty Campbell Griffith are celebrating their 65th wedding anniversary. They said their wedding vows in Betty’s home church the North Benton Presbyterian Church on Saturday, Sept. 3,1955 with the Rev. Thomas McGarrah ministering.
Mahlon was a resident of Damascus and graduated from Goshen High School in Damascus. Betty was a resident of North Benton and graduated from Sebring High School, later graduating from the Hanna Mullins School of Registered Nursing in Salem.
Mahlon severed two years in the Army, one year of which was served in Thule Greenland. Betty nursed a short time in El Paso, Texas while Mahlon was stationed there. After returning home Betty nursed in the Salem Hospital until after starting their family. After Mahlon returned home he worked as a wood pattern maker in Columbiana, retiring from there in December of 1980. Soon after that he worked part time at the Post Office. In September 1982 he became the Postmaster in the Damascus office, retiring as Postmaster in October 1992 and continuing to do appliance repair his later years.
Both are members of the Believer Christian Fellowship in Salem.
They have four children, Larry, Lennie, Lynn, Lance; 13 grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren. They raised their children in Damascus and now live in Salem.
