Rebel supporter

Editor: I taught full time in the Crestview school system for 29 years and have been a volunteer teacher for the past 25 years. Teaching has been very rewarding for me personally. Based on my experience, I know how great the teachers, administrators and students are in our system. I also know we must either repair or replace the supporting infrastructure. The buildings making up this infrastructure need improved safety, security, buildings and an updated learning environment. The cost is much more expensive to achieve this if we choose to do these upgrades without accepting the ...

A tip of the hat from Ohio BWC

Editor: The Salem Area Safety Council is one of more than 80 across the state that partner with the Ohio Bureau of Workers’ Compensation to promote the importance of workplace safety. We at BWC work closely with the council and member employers in Columbiana County and we are always impressed. Their partnership helps BWC achieve its mission of creating a culture of safety around Ohio. That’s why we are so pleased they value the safety of their workers. Ohio’s workplace safety successes show in the numbers. Claims have fallen steadily — approximately 86,000 new claims were ...

Edison students need your support

Editor: Voters will be heading to the polls on Nov. 6 to cast their ballots for a variety of races and issues. Those who reside in the Edison Local School District will decide on Issue 2, a 5.9-mill renewal operating levy that would keep the district on track and replace funding that it lost and will potentially be losing in the near future. Education is evolving every day and the district strives to ...

Treated like dogs

Editor: Times have changed. After reading the Oct. 16 article on the commissioners and the dog pound, it took me back to the late 1990s when the commissioners were doing the same thing of treating the employees that they were in charge of with no respect at all and especially the treatment of the now deceased dog warden of 24 years. Twenty-five years ago, we the people did not like that kind of behavior from our elected officials and voted them out, but today the people turn their backs on the victims, on the problems and vote their party line convincing themselves: But the other ...

Hope, life

Editor: John Maxwell said: “Where there is no hope in the future, there is no power in the present.” As we begin Domestic Violence Awareness Month, we turn our thoughts to victims and survivors of violent, abusive relationships. What empowers a victim to take a stand, to take a step toward safety and freedom? It is hope: hope that the future can be different, hope that they can find help and relief, hope that they can have a better, safer life. Hope brings power. Power to make a phone call, tell a friend, acknowledge the truth about a toxic relationship. Power to rise up and ...

Testimonial

Editor: I’m sure many of us have returned from vacation with pictures and stories to dazzle our friends and family with. However, this story has a true travel tip to share with readers. Recently my wife and I were visiting Gatlinburg and Pigeon Forge, Tennessee. We noticed a plethora of dinner theaters with a variety of acts. One that caught my eye was the “Red Skelton Tribute Show” starring Brian Hoffman. Having been a huge fan of Red’s show in the ’60s and ’70s, I offered my wife a deal. Go to that show with me and I will go to any or all of the shows you want to see. ...
