22nd annual Stamp Family Reunion held

SALEM — The 22nd annual Stamp Family Reunion was held Saturday, July 26, at the Sevakeen Country Club hosted by Mrs. Mary Stamp.

The covered dish, pot luck lunch was attended by 41 descendants of Levi Marshall Stamp (Oct. 27,1834-April 27, 1933) and Ruth Vernon Hawkins (April 24, 1843-May 24, 1922). The lunch time meeting was called to order at 1 p.m. by President Elmer Lee Stamp, who welcomed the family members in attendance coming from California, Virginia, Kansas and many locations in Ohio. Members were asked to stand and were led in the singing of “America” by Michael Newman and Ruth Newman. There was a minute of silence to pray and reflect for the victims and families of the floods in Texas, New Mexico, North Carolina and New York. The cousins then self-served from both sides of the food tables.

Lee Stamp thanked all the great family cooks for preparing and sharing the food. He then thanked Mary Stamp for inviting everyone to Sevakeen and she agreed to host again on July 25, 2026. A basket for donations was passed to cover the cost of the rent for the pavilion, postage for notices and the flower fund. Also a Thank You was given to (cousin-for-a-day) Tom Darling for his help in printing.

Lee Stamp asked each head-of-household to introduce the members of their family in attendance. There was one death and one marriage during the past year that have been noted on the Family Genealogy Chart. The group sang Happy Birthday to each other since everyone had a birthday since last July’s meeting.

The eldest member of the gathering was Willard J. Stamp (over 90), the youngest was Theo W. Kleinman (under 3) and the person traveling the farthest was Dean B. Stamp (from California).

Lee Stamp thanked everyone for attending and making the 22nd family reunion a success. He also reminded everyone that the Stamp Family Christmas Dinner is scheduled for Sunday, Dec. 14 at the Salem Golf Club at 2 p.m., with reservations required two weeks prior.

The table committee was James A. Stamp, and Jerry and Shannon Kleinman who helped set up and tear down.

The final reminder of the day was that the 139th Hawkins Family Reunion will be held on Sunday, Sept. 14 at the Mirror Lake Pavilion in Firestone Park in Columbiana.

Starting at $2.99/week.
