WELLSVILLE -- The Wellsville Carnegie Public Library is preparing to hold a Box program sponsored by PBS (Public Broadcast System) and Ohio 360.
This will be the third time the library has offered the weekly program for children in kindergarten through sixth grade. The first one, which was held in the fall, focused on flight. The second , which wraps up Saturday, focused on winter survival. The next, which starts March 5, will focus on the solar system with a session on the eclipse which will take place over portions of Ohio on April 8.
Children's librarian Rachel Freed said the boxes which contain all the supplies needed for each of the five sessions are provided by PBS. PBS also provides the librarians with training for each of the camp programs.
"The boxes come with everything needed including videos and books suggestions, which I have already pulled the books to go with the kit, activities and games to play," Freed said. "They are very nice, very educational and the kids have been loving it."
The spring Camp in A Box begins Tuesday, March 5 and runs every Tuesday from 4-5 p.m. through the first Tuesday in April.
During the five-week session, children will learn about the solar system, the moon, the eclipse, satellites and astronauts. Children participating in the program will have eclipse glasses which are provided in the kit.
The library does have some eclipse glasses.
Registration is required to attend for each session. Attendees do not have to be library patrons. To register, call 330-532-1526 or stop by the library located at 115 9th St.
Freed is not sure if there will be a summer Camp in a Box with so many people traveling over the summer months. She is not ruling out one for June.
