Prescott at John Carroll
UNIVERSITY HEIGHTS — Beaver Local graduate Isaac Prescott is a freshman nose guard on the John Carroll University football team.
He played on the junior varsity squad this season and got to be on the sideline in his jersey during the Blue Streaks’ 35-6 win over Randolph-Macon in an NCAA Division III playoff game Saturday at Don Shula Stadium.
John Carroll (10-1) will travel to Mount Union (11-0) in a third-round playoff game this Saturday. Kickoff will be at noon at Kehres Stadium. Prescott plans to attend Saturday’s game.
Brungard on way to awards ceremony
YOUNGSTOWN — Youngstown State junior quarterback Beau Brungard is one of three standout FCS quarterbacks to be invited to the Walter Payton Award ceremony on Jan. 3, as part of the FCS National Awards Show at the Woolworth Theatre. Joining Brungard in Nashville for the event will be North Dakota State senior quarterback Cole Payton and Western Carolina redshirt sophomore quarterback Taron Dickens. The trio have emerged from 30 finalists across 13 FCS conferences for the 39th annual Walter Payton Award, which is known as the Heisman of the FCS. The recipient is selected after the regular season by a 56-member voting panel.
United will try again today
HANOVERTON — The United boys basketball team has to wait another day for its season opener.
Tuesday’s home game against Youngstown Academy for Urban Scholars was postponed due to the winter weather. It will be held tonight as a varsity-only contest. The junior high boys with Wellsville will be played before the varsity game.
Urban Scholars lost at Lisbon, 86-30, and at Leetonia, 52-21, so far this season.
Rebels fall to Southeast
KENT — The Crestview girls bowling team got snowed under by Ravenna Southeast, 1737-1594, Tuesday at Spins Bowl.
Emily Morrison topped Southeast with a 176 game and 332 two-game series.
For Crestview, Kylee Wolfe had a 175 game and 300 series. Blasey Biser addeda 277 series and Lyv Barnett a 265 series.
