NFL stadium hosts playoff
CINCINNATI — Two big Cincinnati traditional football rivals needed a bigger stadium to host their Div. I regional championship game on Friday.
St. Xavier and Elder announced on Tuesday that the game would be moved from 6,000-seat Mason High School to Paycor Stadium, home of the Cincinnati Bengals.
Tickets for the encounter at Mason went on sale on Monday but sold out within hours, prompting the change. Paycor made 20,000 tickets available on Wednesday. All tickets are general admission with parking costing $10.
Mason City schools said they bought more than $5,000 worth of food, drinks and condiments for the game, but OHSAA said it offered to pay the rental fee and $2,000 toward the food costs.
Rambo on first-team All-PAC volleyball
NEW WILMINGTON, Pa. — Westminster College senior Shelby Rambo is a first-team selection the All-Presidents’ Athletic Conference volleyball team based on a vote by the league’s 12 head coaches.
Rambo, a former Crestview High School standout, ranked eighth in the PAC in both hitting percentage (.248) and total blocks (76). She wrapped up her collegiate career with 627 kills and 307.0 total blocks, which is tied for 22nd among active Division III leaders..
Rambo was named to the All-PAC second team in 2024 and received honorable mention in 2023.
Westminster concluded its season at 20-11 overall and 10-6 in the PAC. The third-seeded Titans lost to top-seeded Hiram PAC tournament semifinals on Nov. 13.
Poppelriter on Bethany volleyball team
BETHANY, W.Va. — Wellsville High School graduate and Bethany College freshman Bella Poppelriter has just completed her first season with the Bison.
Poppelriter started every match but three and played all six rotations. She had 96 kills which was third on the team as well as 29 aces (second on the team), 237 digs (second on the team and 15 blocks (fourth on the team). She added 396 serve receptions at a 91.2 percent receive rate.
Bethany ended the season 7-18.
