OHSAA changes
COLUMBUS — Member schools of the Ohio High School Athletic Association have approved all 13 proposed changes to the OHSAA Constitution and Bylaws, the organization announced Thursday.
Voting took place from May 1 to May 15. Each high school principal submitted one vote per item. The approved changes will take effect on Aug. 1.
Among the changes, schools will now be required to sponsor at least one sport per season and a total of six throughout the school year to maintain membership, down from the current requirement of two per season. Schools that fail to meet the seasonal or annual requirement could face postseason ineligibility.
Other approved changes include updates to transfer and residency rules, eligibility for home-educated students and rules related to enrollment and competitive balance for non-public schools.
One amendment adds a provision allowing a student who transfers within a district due to adult criminal behavior to be eligible to compete, mirroring a rule already in place for inter-district transfers.
