Grim goes back to state
AKRON — Heartland Christian sophomore Cooper Grim rolled to a Div. II boys tennis district championship with four wins on Friday and Saturday at Springside Athletic Club.
Grim, the winner of the Boardman sectional beat Bay senior Leo Willhoite 6-1, 6-0, Gates Mills Hawken sophomore Nihal Gummadala 6-0, 6-1, Orange’s Illia Shcherbakov 6-0, 5-7, 6-3 and Orange freshman Vivaan Moghekar 6-3, 6-0 to take the district.
Grim is ranked seventh in his class in the state of Ohio by the Tennis Recruiting Network.
Grim, who qualified for the state tournament as a freshman, is set to meet Lexington sophomore Tony Palmer in the first round of the state tournament on Thursday at the College of Wooster tennis courts.
The state tournament will conclude on Friday.
