Rebels pass by Clippers

NILES — Crestview was not about to give in to rival Columbiana on Thursday night in a special game at Eastwood Field.

The Clippers built a 3-0 lead in the fourth inning only to see Crestview come back with three runs in the bottom of the fifth to tie the game.

Eli Cope scored on a passed ball in the sixth to give the Rebels the winning run.

Zachary Davis was the only Rebel with multiple hits as he had a single, double and an RBI. Isaac Unkefer had a double.

Avery Young paced Columbiana with two hits including a double. Liam McElwain added two hits and an RBI for the Clippers who had five hits total.

Luke Julian got the win for the Rebels with five strikeouts and three walks in six innings. Davis got the save with two strikeouts and no walks in an inning.

Reese Roush took the loss with two strikeouts and two walks in one inning of relief.

The two teams resumed playing each other in the regular season after a long layoff last season. Columbiana won the 2024 game 3-0 at Eastwood Field.

Both schools host Eastern Buckeye Conference opponents today. Columbiana (5-7) will get West Branch at noon at Firestone Park, while Crestview (2-5) hosts Marlington at 5 p.m.

Lisbon 5, Liberty 4

YOUNGSTOWN — Lisbon made an early four-run lead hold up in a 5-4 win on Liberty’s new field Thursday.

Ashton Hinchliffe had a single, double and two RBIs for the Devils. Devin Kelly added two hits. Logan Sturgeon was the winning picher with six strikeouts and three walks in 5 2/3 innings.

Lisbon (4-6) hosts East Palestine Monday.

Heartland 5, Campbell 2

STRUTHERS — Paul Bender had two hits including a double as Heartland Christian downed Campbell Memorial 5-2 on Thursday at Cene Park.

Brady DeSantis added two hits for the Lions. Christian Hamilton was the winning pitcher with 11 strikeouts and a walk in 4 2/3 innings.

Heartland (3-6) is at Maplewood on Monday.

Beaver Local 8, Buckeye 3

CALCUTTA — Beaver Local snapped an eight-game skid to start the season with an 8-3 win over Buckeye Local on Thursday.

Aidan Dray had two hits including a double with an RBI for the Beavers (1-8). Braxton Hickman and Paxton Grimes also had doubles.

Grimes was the winning pitcher with six strikeouts and two walks in seven innings.

Beaver Local is at Buckeye Local today.

Oak Glen 10, Wellsville 0

WELLSVILLE –Noah Willey threw a no-hitter with 10 strikeouts as only one Wellsville player reached base in Oak Glen’s 10-0 win over the Tigers on Thursday.

Lucas Zoellers had two hits including a double and one RBI for the Bears. J Maher aded two singles and two RBIs.

Tyler Landess took the loss for Wellsville with seven strikeouts and six walks in four innings of work.

Oak Glen (7-11) hosts Beaver Local on Monday. Wellsville (1-7) is at Malvern today.

West Branch 6, Northwest 3

BELOIT — A three-run headstart in the first inning allowed West Branch to hold on for a 6-3 win over Northwest on Thursday.

Grady Close had three hits for the Warriors, while Anthony Perry and Maddox Coleman had two hits each.

Carson Wike was the winning pitcher with a strikeout and four walks in 3 2/3 innings.

West Branch (4-5) is at Columbiana today.
