A Firestone sweep for East Palestine

COLUMBIANA — It was a Firestone Park sweep for the East Palestine Bulldogs on Tuesday.

In a key Eastern Ohio Athletic Conference game, the Bulldogs took down Columbiana 8-2. East Palestine had beaten Columbiana 11-1 on April 1 also at Firestone Park.

The Bulldogs are 6-2 and 2-2 in the EOAC. Columbiana fell to 5-5 and 4-2 in the EOAC. United leads the league with a 3-0 EOAC mark.

Cale Moraski, who also was the winning pitcher in the April 1 game, struck out 16 and walked one in seven innings. He also had three hits, including a double, and an RBI. Brad Bartels added two hits and two RBIs.

Dan Goehring had a single and double for the Clippers. Reese Roush had a double. Hunter Davanzo had a hit and two RBIs.

Sam Inboden took the loss with six strikeouts and five walks in 4 2/3 innings.

East Palestine will host Wellsville at 4 p.m. today for a pair of five-inning games.

Columbiana hosts Cardinal Mooney today and will play rival Crestview under the lights on Thursday at Eastwood Field.

Minerva 8, Salem 7

SALEM — Minerva scored six runs in the last two innings to down Salem 8-7 on Tuesday.

Troy Gibson had a single, double and two RBIs for the Quakers. Derek Oeach and Keegan Sommers had two hits each. M Boron got the loss with two strikeouts and no walks in an inning of relief.

Salem is 1-8 and is at Minerva today.

Wellsville 8, Steubenville CC 7

WELLSVILLE — Wellsville’s Cooper Frank drew a walk with bases loaded to give the Tigers an 8-7 win in eight innings over Steubenville Central on Tuesday.

Tyler Landess was the winner in relief as he struck out four and walks one in two innings.

Austin Watkins had two doubles for the Tigers, while Landess had three hits including two doubles. Frank had three hits and three RBIs.

Wellsville is 1-5 and will host East Palestine today.

Madonna 13, East Liverpool 1

WEIRTON, W.Va. — Weirton Madonna tagged East Liverpool for 10 hits in a 13-1 win in five innings on Tuesday.

Nate Birch had East Liverpool’s only hits.

Owen Davis took the loss with seven earned runs, no strikeouts and two walks in 24 pitches.

East Liverpool is 1-8 and hosts Harrison Central today.
