Scofinsky comes through in clutch for West Branch
GIRARD — West Branch junior Nicholas Scofinsky made his first varsity plate appearance count.
Scofinsky hit a two-run double with two outs in the sixth inning and Anthony Perry pitched six shutout innings in leading West Branch past Girard, 2-1, in Saturday’s season opener.
Scofinsky’s hit scored Perry and Jeremiah Thomas. Boston Mulinix also hit a triple.
Perry scattered six hits and four walks while striking out five. Dominic Fotheringham struck out two in the final inning.
West Branch will play at Boardman at 5 p.m. Wednesday.

MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. — Jason Pratt accounted for six runs in leading United past West Greene, 13-3, in five innings Saturday.
Pratt had a double, two singles, scored three runs and drove in three more for the Eagles, who went 2-2 on their spring break in Myrtle Beach.
Kadin Schonhauer also had two hits and two runs. Wyatt Swanson had two runs and two RBIs and Nick Lutes had two RBIs. Cavan Jackson added a double.
Schonhauer was the winning pitcher, giving up four hits and one walk with three strikeouts in three innings.

MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. — United was no-hit for the second straight day in a 15-0 loss to the North Varsity Rangers on Saturday.
Gavin Rieder struck out five in a three-inning no-hitter.
Gerardo Torres and Braylon Rolf each scored three runs for the Rangers.
Quentin Taylor took the loss, giving up eight earned runs in three innings. He struck out six and walked seven.

Minerva 7, Beaver 1
MINERVA — Aiden Thomas scattered three hits and one run in six innings and Braydon Wood pitched a perfect inning in relief to give Minerva a 7-1 win over Beaver Local at Carl Michael Field on Saturday.
Beaver Local took a 1-0 lead in the top of the third inning as Andre Wiegand singled home Isaac Dailey.
The Lions scored in four straight innings to pull away.
Brennan Barnes doubled and singled, while Julian Dunbar had two singles and two RBIs and Owen Frazier singled twice. Kaden Kandel scored twice and drove in two more runs.
Minerva will host Tuslaw today.

RICHMOND — Edison junior Bryce Rogers tossed a no-hitter in blanking East Liverpool, 10-0, in six innings Saturday.
Rogers struck out 11 and walked one.
He aided his cause by driving in two runs and scoring another. Evan Kimmerle doubled and singled and Kayden Russell added a double.
East Liverpool starter Cooper Klein took the loss, giving up eight runs on six hits in 1 1/3 innings. He walked four.
East Liverpool will travel to Beaver Local today.

WARREN — Warren JFK scored two runs in the first inning and that was all the Eagles needed in a 3-0 win over Salem on Saturday.
Freddy Bolchalk blanked the Quakers, giving up four hits with 11 strikeouts and no walks.
Michael Bartoe had two hits and drove in a run for the Eagles.
Colin Riesen took the loss, giving up three runs, two earned, on seven hits and one walk with three strikeouts in four innings.Brayden Van Dyne pitched two scoreless innings.
Salem will play at Youngstown Mooney today.

COLUMBIANA — Jackson-Milton withstood a late Crestview rally as the Bluejays captured a 7-5 win Saturday.
Jackson-Milton took a 5-0 lead in the fourth inning and had to score two runs in the top of the seventh to pull out the victory.
Three Jackson-Milton pitchers held the Rebels to three hits and struck out 13.
Don Kool had two hits, scored two runs and drove in two more for the Bluejays.
Kyle Booth walked three times and scored twice for the Rebels.
