Potters run at nationals

BOSTON — Two East Liverpool runners took on the best high school runners around over the weekend.

East Liverpool senior Julius Jones and junior Maddox Roach competed at the New Balance Indoor Nationals at the TRACK, near the Boston Landing commuter rail station.

Roach finished 121st out of 173 runners in the boys mile run on Sunday. His time of 4:23.05 was the second fastest in East Liverpool history.

Forty runners went under 4:15. The winner was Robin Lefebvre — a senior at College de Montreal, a private high school in Montreal — in 4:05.22. Lefebvre is the under-20 Canadian national champion in the 800 meters and placed second in the event the day before (1:48.63).

Jones finished 158th out of 186 runners in the boys 800 meters (1:59.15) on Saturday.

Pulaski County (Virginia) junior Cole Boone won in 1:48.29. He was fourth at the meet last year and won the Virginia Class 3 state title earlier this month.

Boone, who reportedly has an NIL deal with New Balance, recently set the national high school record in the boys 1000 meters, breaking a 16-year-old record by 2 seconds in 2:20.15.

The Potters will open their outdoor track season later this month.

Starting at $2.99/week.
