Rebels rule MVAC

GARRETTSVILLE — Crestview captured its third straight Mahoning Valley Athletic Conference Gray Tier title by downing Garrettsville Garfield, 63-21, Monday.

LaBrae lost to Ravenna Southeast to give the Rebels another title outright.

Crestview improves to 18-3 overall and 13-0 in MVAC play, two games ahead of LaBrae with one to play. The Rebels will host LaBrae on Thursday with the junior varsity game starting at 5:30 p.m.

Addison Rhodes and Luvrain Gaskins paced the Rebels with 20 and 19 points, respectively. Ava Bucey added seven and Kerrigan Miller six.

The Rebels led 26-5 in the first quarter and 46-16 at halftime.

Garfield drops to 8-12.

Crestview also won the junior varsity game, 42-16. Lainey Milhoan scored 17 points and Isabella Schaper 12 to lead the Rebels.

Valley 45, Leetonia 6

LEETONIA — Valley Christian topped Leetonia 45-6 on Monday in girls basketball action.

Leetonia fell to 1-17 and 0-13 in the Eastern Ohio Athletic Conference. Valley Christian is 5-15 and 3-11 in the EOAC.

Leetonia hosts Lowellville on Thursday.

East Liverpool 59, Cambridge 46

CAMBRIDGE — East Liverpool outscored Cambridge by nine points in the second quarter to cruise past the Bobcats 59-46 on Monday in an OVAC consolation pool game.

East Liverpool led by 10 at the half.

The Potters moved to 9-12 and will close the regular season schedule against Weir on Thursday at Potter Fieldhouse.

Weir 53, Beaver 48

WEIRTON, W.Va. — Beaver Local’s girls basketball team suffered a 53-48 loss to Weir on Monday in an OVAC consolation pool game.

Ally Wright had 16 points for the Beavers, while Bella McLevey added 10 points. Mallory Miller had nine points.

Beaver Local is 7-14 and will close the regular season on Thursday against Union Local at Beaver Local.

Beaver Local won the jayvee game, 16-2. Mya Stacy had seven points for the winners.

West Branch 50, New Philadelphia 32

BELOIT — It didn’t take West Branch long to start another winning streak.

After having its 10-game winning streak snapped at Canfield on Saturday, West Branch rolled over New Philadelphia, 50-32, Monday.

The Warriors improve to 17-2 on the season. The Quakers lost for the second time in seven games to drop to 13-7.

West Branch opened up a 27-12 halftime lead. New Philadelphia closed within 40-28 through three quarters, but West Branch went on a 10-4 run in the fourth quarter to pull away.

Audrey Eaton led the Warriors with nine points. Tallie Muniz and Ellie Tucker added eight points apiece. Alli Kanagy have seven points, Hallie Vie Burton six and Mati Hawk and Carter Shepherd each had five.

Both teams return to action Wednesday with West Branch hosting Warren JFK in a varsity-only contest at 6:30 p.m. and New Philadelphia entertaining Alliance.

West Branch also won the junior varsity game, 36-6, to improve to 17-2. The Warriors opened up a 14-0 lead.

Addison Reichenbach hit three three-pointers for 11 points. Cailyn Fritz contribued 10 points. Daniela Benitez added five and Carly Loper four.

The West Branch junior varsity team will play a JV-only contest at Boardman at 6:45 p.m. Thursday.
