AKRON — Columbiana’s Preston Buckingham won the 100-yard breaststroke in 1:00.71 on Friday at the Div. II sectional meet at the University of Akron.

Buckingham automatically qualifies for the district meet set for Feb. 14 at Cleveland State University. Only the top finishers two got automatic berths to the district. The rest are determined on an at-large basis.

Buckingham also finished third in the 200 individual medley (2:04.81).

Salem junior Ryan Folger was also first in the 100 butterfly (53.87) and 10th in the 100 backstroke (58.74).

In girls competition, Columbiana’s Elena Mackall was second in the 100 backstroke in 1:03.9 as was Salem’s Ava Cheeks in the 100 butterfly (1:03.54).

Columbiana’s Victoria Buckingham was fifth in the 100 breaststroke (1:10.83) and 200 individual medley 2:23.29.

Crestview’s Kyla Pancake was sixth in the 100 breaststroke (1:11.81) and eighth in the 200 individual medley (2:30.34)

Columbiana’s girls 200 medley relay (2:01.21) and 400 freestyle relay (3:59.6) were both third.

Mackall was also sixth in the 50 freestyle (26.65) and Cheeks was 10th in the 200 individual medley (2:31.26).

Nina Napoo was fifth in the 200 individual medley (2:24.19) and sixth in the 100 butterfly (1:06.77).
