Rebels enjoy big night

COLUMBIANA — It was a night for milestones as the Crestview girls basketball team defeated Garfield 57-11 on Thursday.

Senior Luvrain Gaskins, already a 1,000-point scorer, reached the 1,000 rebound mark for her career, while junior Addison Rhodes saw her school-record streak of 33 straight free throws made come to an end. The previous Rebel best was Kami Guy who made 22 straight in the 1990-91 season.

Rhodes had 24 points and three steals in the win. Kerrigan Miller added three assists, while Brianna DiCross had seven assists and three steals.

Crestview won the jayvee game, 55-10. Brianna Baker had 18 points, while Lainey Milhoan added 12 points and Katie MacKay 10 points.

Crestview is 10-3 and will be at LaBrae on Tuesday.

Springfield 41, Salem 32

SALEM — Jameka Brungard had 17 points to lead Springfield Local to a 41-32 victory over Salem on Thursday in girls basketball action.

Kendall Maughan added 13 points for the winners, 6-7.

Reese Davidson-Chuck had 14 points and six rebounds for the Quakers, while Muirin Lesko had six rebounds.

Salem fell to 6-7 and will play at Poland on Monday.

Salem won the jayvee game, 31-19. Peyton Colbert scored 19 points for the Quakers.

East Liverpool 47, Harrison Central 32

CADIZ — East Liverpool’s girls basketball team was up to the task as it downed Harrison Central 47-32 on Thursday.

East Liverpool moved to 6-8, while the Huskies fell to 8-5. The Potters lost to the Huskies 25-19 in the first meeting on Dec. 9.

Harrison came into the night leading the OVAC Class 4A standings. East Liverpool was sitting fifth.

Harrison won the jayvee game 23-22 in overtime.

The Potters will be at Steubenville on Monday.

Indian Creek 53, Beaver Local 34

CALCUTTA –A 20-point third quarter put Indian Creek over the top in a 53-34 win over Beaver Local on Thursday.

Beaver Local fell to 4-10, while Indian Creek moved to 8-6.

Kaydence Walker and McKenna Scott had 14 points each for Creek.

For Beaver Local, Ally Wright had 13 points, while Bella McLevey had 10 points.

The Beavers will host Edison next Thursday.

Beaver Local won the jayvee game, 19-14. Baylee Curtis had five points for the Beavers, while Mya Anderson had four points.

COLUMBIANA — Edison knocked off Heartland Christian 60-50 on Thursday in girls basketball action.

Emily McDowell and Sarah Reynolds had 12 points each for the Lions.

Heartland fell to 7-6 and will play at Lake Center Christian on Saturday.
