Beavers, Clippers swimmers top OVAC
WELLSBURG, W.Va. — Beaver Local’s boys swimming team won the Class 4A title to lead area teams on Friday at the OVAC swimming meet at Brooke High School.
Other team champions included Linsly in girls and boys Class 1A-3A and St. Clairsville in Class 4A.
In Class 4A, Beaver Local’s Brenna Cunningham won the girls 200 freestyle in 2:14.57. Beaver Local’s Cole Long took the 200 individual medley in 1:59.15 and the backstroke in 54.97. The Beaver boys 200 freestyle relay of Mason Boggs, Zane Elick, Justin Bailey and Cole Long won in 1:40.26.
East Liverpool’s Nicholas Aldrich took the boys Class 4A butterfly in 57.22.
In Class 1A-3A, Columbiana’s 200 medley relay team of Elena Mackall, Victoria Buckingham, Nina Nappo and Reagan Nappo won in 2:01.95. Nina Nappo won the 100 butterfly in 1:06.7 and the 500 freestyle in 5:48.24. Mackell captured the backstroke in 1:06.26.
Mackall, Reagan Nappo, Nina Nappo and Buckingham also combined to win the 400 freestyle relay (4:02.39).
Columbiana’s Preston Buckingham won the 200 individual medley in 1:59.22 and 100 breaststroke in 58.95 seconds.
Crestview bowlers fall to LaBrae
SALEM — The Crestview bowling teams came up short against LaBrae on Wednesday at Hunt Club Lanes.
The Crestview boys narrowly lost to LaBrae, 2,518-2,450. Peyton Mellott led the Rebels with a 470 series, while Brody Brubaker rolled a 247 high game as part of his 399 series. Lucas Johnson added a 378 series for Crestview.
For LaBrae, Ryan Simunich led the way with a 225 high game and 437 series. Alex Prouty contributed a 405 series and Nate Morris chipped in with a 400 series.
The Crestview girls also fell to LaBrae, 1,719-1,668. Lydia Campbell paced the Rebels with a 140 high game and 270 series. Blasey Biser and Lyv Barnett each added 260 series.
LaBrae’s Bria Collins led all bowlers with a 233 high game and 390 series. Maddie Touart added a 305 series, while Jasmine Hartzell recorded a 243 series.
