Heartland hits 16 threes in victory over Wellsville

WELLSVILLE — Heartland Christian’s boys basketball team hit 16 threes in an 81-60 rout of Wellsville on Saturday.

Heartland is 8-4, while Wellsville dropped to 4-9.

Collin Kalaher had 26 points for the winners, while Isaiah Matthews added 23 points. Jacob Reed also broke into double figures with 11.

Tyrell Watkins led Wellsville with 24 points and 10 rebounds. Andrew Mackey had 15 points and 10 boards.

Heartland is at Southern on Tuesday. Wellsville will be at Oak Glen on Tuesday.

Heartland won the jayvee game, 43-41.

HUBBARD — Owen Hill had 29 points to lead Beaver Local’s boys basketball team to a 65-54 win over Hubbard on Saturday.

Nick McKenzie added 12 points for the Beavers, 10-3.

Beaver Local will host rival East Liverpool on Thursday.

Beaver Local won the jayvee game in overtime, 37-35. Luke Warrick had 17 points, while Nolan Irving added nine points.

GREENFORD — Luke Rohan had 24 points as South Range’s boys basketball team surged past Columbiana 72-52 on Saturday.

Seth Struharik led the Clippers with 24 points.

Columbiana is 12-2 and will be at East Palestine on Friday.

South Range is 10-2.

Range also won the jayvee game, 60-25. Gavin Hiscox had 10 points for the Raiders. Trey Snyder had nine points for the Clippers.

Crestview is 4-10. Jameson English had 25 points and six steals for the Rebels.

Crestview hosts Southeast Tuesday.

Southern 62, Conotton Valley 57

BOWERSTON — Southern Local’s boys basketball team overcame a 10-point deficit with six minutes left to beat Conotton Valley 62-57 on Sunday.

Braxton Sloan had 16 points, seven rebounds, five assists and three steals for Southern, 5-6.

Landen Heffner added 13 points and 11 rebounds with six steals and five assists.

Noah Chase had 15 points and four rebounds.

Southern hosts Heartland on Tuesday.

Salem is 7-9 and 4-4 in the Eastern Buckeye Conference. Minerva fell to 6-10 and 1-7.

Muirin Lesko had 13 points. Abby Knickerbocker added 15 points and seven rebounds.

Salem won the jayvee game, 40-33. Peyton Colbert had 12 points.

Aynsley Galeoti was named East Liverpool’s MVP of the game.

East Liverpool is 7-10 and is at Wheeling Linsly at 4 p.m. today.

Beaver Local 51, St. Clairsville 46

ST. CLAIRSVILLE — Beaver Local captured the seventh place game of the Buckeye 8 Athletic League with a 51-46 win over St. Clairsville on Saturday at the ECO Center.

Beaver Local is 5-10 and will play at Oak Glen today.

Beaver Local game MVP Ally Wright had 13 points and seven boards, while Brylee Curtis added 10 points, eight rebounds and three steals. Calli Sorge added seven points and eight steals. Tori Druschel had eight rebounds and four steals. Mallory Miller added seven points and five rebounds. Mya Anderson had seven points.

BELOIT — West Branch’s girls basketball team posted a 43-29 win over Ursuline on Saturday to move to 14-1 on the season.

West Branch led 21-14 at the half and outscored the Irish by six in the third quarter to take control.

It was West Branch’s eighth victory in a row.

Tallie Muniz had 14 points, while Carter Shepherd added six points.

West Branch is at Carrollton on Wednesday. A win by West Branch would give Branch the outright Eastern Buckeye Conference championship.

West Branch won the jayvee game, 50-23. Elly Biskup and Addison Reichenbach had nine points each.

Steubenville Central Catholic 45, East Palestine 13

STEUBENVILLE — Steubenville Central Catholic toppled East Palestine 45-17 in girls basketball action on Saturday.

Emma Gingher had four points and four rebounds for the Bulldogs, 3-14. East Palestine hosts Valley Christian on Thursday.
