Leetonia, Palestine earn home victories

LEETONIA — Carson Brock scored 12 points to lead a balanced Leetonia effort in the Bears’ 55-20 win over Youngstown Urban Scholars on Tuesday.

Leetonia is 2-1 with both wins over the Urban Scholars.

The Bears will host Mineral Ridge today.

Leetonia won the two quarter jayvee game, 14-11.

EAST PALESTINE — East Palestine ran away with a 71-35 win over Jefferson County Christian on Tuesday.

East Palestine is 1-1 and will host United on Friday.

Owen Jurjavcic had 21 points, eight rebounds and six assists for the winners. Kyler Bourne added 20 points and 12 boards. Landyn Cope had 12 points and six rebounds.

East Palestine won the two quarter jayvee portion, 25-16. Peyton Rutledge and Ashton Troskey had six points each.

Lakeview 51

COLUMBIANA –Seth Struharik had 27 points and six assists as the Clippers downed Lakeview 60-51 on Tuesday.

Senator Johnson had 11 points and six rebounds, while Cooper Brown had 10 points and nine boards.

Columbiana is 3-0 and hosts Leetonia on Friday.

Lakeview won the jayvee game 26-18. Trey Snyder had six points for Columbiana.

HANOVERTON — Salem got 17 points from Ty Manion and 13 more from Deontay Steele as the Quakers downed United 56-48 on Tuesday.

Cletis Monroy chipped in 11 points for the Quakers.

Jason Pratt hit seven threes on his way to a game-high 24 for United.

Salem is 2-2 and hosts Minerva on Friday. United is 1-3 and is at East Pakestine on Friday.

Salem won the jayvee game, 60-31. Brayden VanDyne had 11 points for the Quakers.

Kota Shasteen and M’Kyan Haynes had six points each for United.

CALCUTTA — Owen Hill scored 23 points to power Beaver Local to a 50-48 win over Harrison Central on Tuesday.

Nick McKenzie added eight points, while Hunter Warrick and Luke Rettos had seven points each for the Beavers, 2-1.

Bryson Kamarec led Harrison with 19 points.

Beaver Local won the jayvee game, 45-26. Luke Warrick had 19 points for the winners.

Beaver Local returns to action on Saturday at Indian Creek.

Toronto 72, Wellsville 45

WELLSVILLE — Toronto junior Austin Buchanan scored 16 of his game-high 33 points in the first half to guide the Red Knights past Wellsville, 72-45, Tuesday.

Brady Fait added 11 points and Landon Grimes 10 for the winners.

Toronto improves to 3-0, while Wellsville drops to 1-3. Both teams play Friday with Wellsville hosting Lisbon and Toronto visiting Steubenville.

Tyrell Watkins topped the Tigers with nine points. Andrew Mackey added seven points and Jeron Jackson had six points and seven assists. Landon Ramsey and Darnell Roe each had six points.

Toronto also won the junior varsity game, 51-31. Cole Byers scored 12 points for the Red Knights. Eric Dowling had 11 for the Tigers.

In freshman play Monday, Wellsville beat Toronto 34-33 as Jeron Jackson scored 19 points.

NORTH JACKSON — Crestview’s boys basketball team picked up a 55-34 win over Jackson-Milton on Tuesday.

It was the first head coaching win of Rebel coach Lou Matteo’s career.

Jonathan Best had 17 points for the Rebels, while Tanner Guy added 13 points. Jameson English and Evan Neff had 10 points each.

Crestview is 1-2 and is at Brookfield on Saturday.

BROOKFIELD — Blaine Barnes tallied 18 points to help Lisbon down Brookfield 56-48 on Tuesday.

Luke Kraft and A.J. Ramgeet added 12 points each for Lisbon, 1-3. Kraft also had 12 rebounds and four assists with six steals, while Aiden Ramgeet had 10 points and four assists.

Brookfield won the jayvee game, 55-29. Paxton Henthorne had 10 points for Lisbon.

Lisbon is at Wellsville on Friday.

Bryce Rogers had 22 points for Edison.

Mason Pitts had 24 points and nine rebounds for the Indians, while Aaron Keoppel added 11 points. Braxton Sloan had 10 points and 12 rebounds.

Southern is 1-2 and is at Valley on Friday.

Edison won the jayvee game, 27-26.
