United golden against Warren JFK
MCDONALD — Zoee Smith had 24 kills and 22 digs as 24th-seeded United spiked 13th-seeded Warren JFK, 25-22, 26-24, 25-27, 25-17, in a Division VI sectional final Saturday.
The United Eagles won their fifth straight to improve to 12-10. They will play at second-seeded McDonald in a district semifinal at 5 p.m. Wednesday. McDonald handed Eastern Ohio Athletic Conference champion Columbiana its only loss of the season last month.
Kendall Erb Erb contributed 13 points and 12 kills, Rileah Phillips 12 points, four aces and 42 assists and Baylee Smith 24 digs and 34 service receptiongs in the victory.
Warren JFK finishes its season at 15-8.
Loudonville 3, Southern 1
KIRTLAND — Loudonville escaped from Southern Local on Saturday.
No. 18-seeded Loudonville beat Southern, 25-16, 20-25, 25-10, 31-29, in a Division VI sectional final.
Loudonville (14-9) will play sixth-seeded Kirtland at 7 p.m. Wednesday at Dalton High School.
Southern finishes its season at 12-11.
West Branch 3, Northwest 0
BELOIT — The Wwest Branch volleyball team was ready to go after eight days off.
Seventh-seeded West Branch swept 29th-seeded Northwest, 25-14, 25-21, 25-13, in a Division IV sectional final Saturday.
West Branch (16-7) advances to play 19th-seeded Medina Buckeye at 7 p.m. Wednesday at Norton High School.
West Branch featured a balanced effort with Kendelle Hoopes eight points, four aces, eight kills and six digs, Audrey Ring eight kills, Kendyll Kaley eight kills, Abigail Janosik seven kills, Cailyn Fritz four kills, Carter Shepherd 4 kills and Chloey Sanor two kills, Addison Craven five points and Sara Schmidt five digs.
Northwest finishes at 8-14.
Field 3, Salem 2
PENINSULA — No. 26-seeded Mogadore Field rallied past No. 25-seeded Salem, 24-26, 25-16, 12-25, 26-24, 16-14, in a Division IV sectional final Saturday.
Field improves to 11-1 and will play at fourth-seeded Woodridge at 7 p.m. Wednesday.
Salem wraps up its season with a 7-16 record.
