Clippers host EOAC meet
COLUMBIANA — The eighth Eastern Ohio Athletic Conference Cross Country Meet will be held today at the Ward Athletic Complex behind Columbiana High School.
The East Palestine girls have won all EOAC titles, while the Southern Local boys have won two in a row.
The boys and girls will run combined races and be scored separately. The race schedule includes fifth- and sixth-grade at 4:30 p.m., junior high at 5 p.m. and high school at 5:30 p.m.
The meet has been moved from United the past two years due to construction of the new school complex.
Crestview still in second
COLUMBUS — The unbeaten Crestview volleyball team remains second in Division V in the latest Ohio High School Volleyball Coaches Association state poll.
The Rebels are 15-0 and have dropped one game all season. They will host Champion today.
Two-time defending state champion Mentor Lake Catholic is ranked No. 1. The Cougars are 14-3 and have won five straight. Two of their losses were to D3 No. 1 Gilmour Academy in September and another to D3 No. 4 Bishop Watterson.
Also in D5, Union Local is ranked fourth and Tuscarawas Valley 10th.
Union Local (16-2) will host Oak Glen today.
Marlington is ranked fourth in Division IV after wrapping up the Eastern Buckeye Conference title with wins over Salem and Alliance.
North Wilkesboro race postponed
NORTH WILKESBORO, N.C. — The NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour postponed Saturday’s race at North Wilkesboro Speedway.
The decision was made in cooperation with local authorities to ensure all local emergency resources remain dedicated to cleanup and recovery efforts in the aftermath of Hurricane Helene’s impact on the area. Starting Tuesday, North Wilkesboro Speedway will become a designated collection site for hurricane relief donations.
A decision regarding a possible makeup date for the race will be announced in the future.
Ron Silk holds an 11-point lead over Justin Bonsignore in the driver points standings. Silk has four wins and top 10 finishes in all 13 races this season. He has 26 career victories in the series.
The next Modified Tour race will be Oct. 13 at Thompson (Conn.) Speedway Motorsports Park.
Cavaliers preseason schedule
CLEVELAND — The Cleveland Cavaliers will play four preseason games.
The Cavaliers will host the Chicago Bulls at 7 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 8, and the Indians Pacers at 7 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 10. Then they will play at the Detroit Pistons at 7 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 16, and at the Chicago Bulls at 8 p.m. Friday, Oct. 18.
The Cavaliers will open the 2024-25 regular season at the Toronto Raptors on Wednesday, Oct. 25.
