Local cyclist to compete
BORREGO SPRINGS, Calif. — Professional ultra cyclist Joe Lawhorn of Lisbon is set to compete in the 24-hour World Time Trial Championship this weekend.
Lawhorn, a retired marine and race director of Lisbon’s Coal Country Roubaix, is competing in the fixed gear category which he won in 2017 and 2021. Lawhorn, a Chillicothe native, holds the world record for number of miles ridden on a fixed gear bicycle in 24 hours at 415 miles set in 2017. Lawhorn is a two-time world champion and holds nine World Ultra Cycling records.
Lawhorn has been cycling as a professional since 2017 when he was forced to retire from the military due to injuries suffered during combat.

On the All-Eastern Ohio Athletic Conference volleyball list in Tuesday’s edition, Columbiana’s Landry Smith was a second team choice and not a libero. The second team libero was Southern senior Kennedy Lewis. Honorable mention Gianna Pecorelli’s name was misspelled.
Warden records ace
CALCUTTA — Doug Warden of Irondale aced the 140-yard, No. 2 with a driver on Monday at Beaver Creek Meadows.
His playing partners were Bob Parfitt and Tom Watson.
