Indians have a shot

LISBON — Southern Local is taking the long way to a share of the Eastern Ohio Athletic Conference title.

The Indians connected on 10 three-pointers to beat Lisbon, 66-41, Thursday.

Southern won for the eighth time in nine games to improve to 15-6 overall and 11-2 in league play. United already has a share of the EOAC title and two more can share it Saturday if Southern wins at East Palestine and Columbiana wins against Lisbon.

Ashley Shroades led the Indians with a game-high 25 points, including 15 in the second half, and recorded a triple-double with 10 rebounds, 10 assists and three steals. She becomes one of the few area players with 1,000 career points and 1,000 rebounds.

She joins Crestview’s Chelsea Bowker as the only ones to get 2,000 points and 1,000 rebounds. Shroades also set the school record for most assists in a season with 124, two more than Dana Mobley.

Josie Stanley contributed 13 points, six rebounds and five assists. Makenna Jones had 12 points, six rebounds and two blocks. Freshman Addyson Martin had three key three-pointers in the first half for nine points. Raelea Carosiello added eight rebounds and three steals.

Lisbon moves to 6-13 and 4-9 in the EOAC.

Morgan Lively topped the Blue Devils with 19 points, nine rebounds and six blocks. Jayden Smyth added 10 points and five steals. Lylah Brown had seven rebounds and Wells dished out five assists.

Lisbon held its only lead at 7-6 before Martin hit consecutive three-pointers in 40 seconds. Allyssa Shroades followed with a steal and layup and the Indians led 14-7.

Three-pointers by Ashley Shroades and Stanley had three-pointers to boost the Indians led to 24-13 two minutes into the second quarter.

Smyth had three baskets in the second quarter, two off assists from Alysa Wells, to cut the margin to 24-20. But Ashley Shroades and Martin connected on three-pointers to give the Indians a 30-21 halftime lead.

The Indians outscored the Blue Devils 19-8 in the third quarter to pull away.

Lisbon won the two-quarter junior varsity game, 14-12, on Jayden Smyth’s layup with three seconds left. Smyth scored five points.

United 52, Beaver 23

CALCUTTA — United’s girls basketball team downed Beaver Local 52-23 on Thursday.

Grace Knight powered United (15-6) with 18 points, 10 of which were scored in the third quarter. Katie Dees had eight points, two rebounds and three steals. Knight also had five rebounds and three steals. Grayson Kidder had seven points and three rebounds. Addy Blazer had five points, 10 rebounds, five steals, four assists and five blocks.

United will play at East Liverpool on Monday to close the regular season.

Calli Sorge had seven points for the Beavers, 6-16.

Beaver Local will be at Steubenville on Feb. 21 in a Div. II sectional.

Beaver won the two quarter jayvee game, 17-8. Rylee Thomas had seven points for the Beavers.

COLUMBIANA — Taylor Long hit a runner with nine seconds left in overtime to lift Columbiana to a 36-35 win over Western Reserve on Thursday.

Long led the Clippers with 11 points.

Columbiana is 18-3 and will host Lisbon on Saturday to wrap up the regular season.

Western Reserve is 12-8.

Columbiana won the jayvee game, 44-9.

Annah Clemmer had 19 points for the Clippers.
