Ciotti’s homer leads to win
CANTON — The Springfield 65 and over baseball team defeated the Ohio Classics 12-11 recently.
The Classics battled back from a 8-2 score to tie the game 8-8, sending the game to extra innings. The Classics scored three runs in the top of their inning to take a 11-8 lead. Springfield battled back in the bottom of the inning to score four runs to win the game. After East Palestine resident Jim Wilson scored a run, the stage was set for Salem resident Jim Ciotti.With two outs and two strikes, Ciotti hit a three-run walk-off home run for the win. Dave Warren also provided two hits in the victory. Springfield is the defending four-time league champions.
CALCUTTA — A Jub Whittaker walk-off single in the seventh lifted the Chester Old-Timers to a 11-10 victory over the Poland Fog on Sunday.
Chester is 7-1 on the season and remains in first place in the American Division of the Youngstown 50-plus Baseball League.
Bill Sattler went the distance to pick up the win. John Dpieor led the team with four hits. Dave Smith, Brian Wright, Kevin Ferrell, Marshall Simcox and Jub Whittaker each had two hits.
Chester will play Greenville (Pa.) and Jamestown (N.Y.) in doubleheader next Sunday at Thiel College.
