Sigler won’t coach United

United Local’s girls basketball team will be under new leadership this fall as head coach Josh Sigler has resigned to become the athletic director at Beaver Local.

Sigler is replacing Bob Beam at Beaver Local as Beam left to take the athletic director at Springfield Local after Mark Carden stepped down at the end of the school year.

Sigler was 46-26 in three seasons in charge of the Golden Eagles’ girls basketball program. United claimed the Eastern Ohio Athletic Conference title last season and will return a lot of talent from that team.

“(The athletic director position) is a full-time job and there was no way I could be at both schools,” Sigler said.

Sigler said he was interviewed on June 21 and was offered the job the next day. He informed the United girls basketball team that he was not returning on June 23.

He formally resigned his coaching position on Tuesday.

Sigler said he does not know who will step in his shoes but hopes assistant Cory Leek will be considered for the head coaching job.

“I’m going to miss it,” Sigler said. “Before becoming a head coach, I was an assistant in either the girls or boys basketball programs there since 2013. I really liked coaching.”
