Geiss, Hodge at junior high state track

HILLIARD — Eighth-graders Rebecca Geiss of Heartland Christian and Adri Hodge of Crestview raced at the fifth Ohio High School Athletic Association 7th and 7th Grade State Track and FIeld Championships on Saturday.

Geiss was ninth in the girls 1600 meters (5:16.78) and 16th in the 800 meters (2:28.35). She was the Columbiana County champion in both events.

Hodge was 18th in the 1600 meters (5:26.08).

District track opens today at Springfield

NEW MIDDLETOWN — The Springfield Local Division III district track and meet will be filled with local athletics today and Friday.

There will be 24 boys and 23 girls teams, including Columbiana, Crestview, East Palestine, Heartland Christian, Leetonia, Lisbon, Sebring, Southern Local, Springfield, United, Wellsville and Western Reserve.

The top four in each event advance to the Massillon Perry regional next week.

Tickets for the district are online only. Cost is $8 until three hours before the event and $10 after that.

Salem hosts district track

SALEM — Sebo Stadium is hosting the Division II district track and field meet Thursday and Saturday. The field of 17 boys teams and 14 girls teams features three of the top programs in the Eastern Buckeye Conference — Salem, West Branch and Marlington. South Range is also in the field.

The top four in each event advance to the Austintown Fitch regional next week.

Beavers, Potters heading west

MILLERSBURG — Beaver Local, East Liverpool and Minerva are heading to the Division II district track and field meet at West Holmes High School on Thursday and Saturday. There are 14 boys teams and 13 girls teams.

The top four in each event advance to the Chillicothe regional next week.

Oak Glen state track qualifiers

CHARLESTON, W.Va. — Oak Glen has several standout athletes with top times in their respective events going into today’s West Virginia Class AA State Track and Field Championships set for Laidley Field.

Boys senior distance runner Konnor Allison has the top seed time in the 800 and 1600 runs, while girls sophomore sprinting star Kamela Ward has the top 200 seed time.

Action will begin with the National Anthem at 5 p.m. today. Field events including girls shot put, boys discus, girls high jump, boys high jump and boys pole vault will be contested starting at 5:05 p.m. Running events will start at 6 p.m.

On Thursday, action will begin with the 300 hurdle finals at 10 a.m. Boys shot put, girls discus, boys high jump, girls long jump and girls pole vault will be contested starting at 11 a.m. The afternoon session will begin at noon with the national anthem and graduations. The meet is scheduled to wrap up at 3:05 p.m. on Thursday.

Admission is $10 for adults and $7 for students.
