State finals in Canton

CANTON — The 50th Ohio High School Athletic Association football state championships will be held tonight through Saturday with seven games at Tom Benson Hall of Fame Stadium.

In August, 709 schools began the season with the goal of playing for a state championship. Now 14 schools have reached that opportunity this weekend.

Tickets are available at www.OHSAA.org/tickets. General admission is $90 for all seven games or $15 for adults and $12 for students per game. There is a limited amount of parking in the school lot for $10.

Spectrum News 1 will televise all seven championship games live.

Mt. Union hosts Mules

ALLIANCE — The fourth-ranked University of Mount Union football team will host 13th-ranked Muhlenberg (Pa.) in an NCAA Division III quarterfinal at noon Saturday.

Both teams have quarterbacks with big numbers through 12 games. Mount Union junior Braxton Plunk is completing 72.1 percent of his passes for 3,819 yards and 40 touchdowns, while Muhlenberg senior Michael Hnatkowsky has a 71.4 percent completion rate for 3,582 yards and 45 touchdown this season.

All tickets are $8 and all seats are reserved. Tickets will be available when the gates open at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Mount Union Stadium or online through Hometown Ticketing.
