Quakers, Indians still perfect after four

SALEM — Salem’s girls basketball team opened its Eastern Buckeye Conference slate with a 46-23 win over Minerva on Wednesday.

Krista Barley tallied 12 points and three rebounds for the winners. Jenna McClish added 11 points, while Abbie Davidson chipped in 10 points. Kami Rohm had seven rebounds.

Salem is 4-0 and 1-0 in the league and will travel to Canton South on Saturday.

Salem’s jayvees were 45-18 winners. Reese Davidson had 11 points, while Lauryn Barton added eight points.

West Branch 58, Alliance 37

ALLIANCE — West Branch’s girls basketball team cruised to a 58-37 win over Alliance on Wednesday.

West Branch is 3-1 and 1-0 in the Eastern Buckeye Conference.

Sophie Gregory had 25 points, 16 rebounds and seven steals to lead the winners. Livvie Showalter added 18 points. Sydney Mercer had 13 rebounds.

Alliance fell to 1-3, 0-1.

West Branch won the jayvee game, 38-6.

Branch hosts Carrollton on Saturday.

Southern 50, Malvern 42

SALINEVILLE –Ashley Shroades scored 27 points and Southern beat Malvern, 50-42, for its fourth win of the season on Wednesday.

Shroades also tallied 15 rebounds for a double-double and the sophomore added five assists and three steals.

Southern’s Olivia Kerns posted a double-double of her own with 12 points and 11 boards. Esther Forbes and Kennedy Lewis each collected five rebounds from their guard positions.

For Malvern (1-2), Maddie Powers scored 22 points and teammate Lanie Bower added seven.

Southern visits Wellsville today. The Hornets visit Shadyside on Saturday.

There wasn’t a Southern JV game on Wednesday and there won’t be one today. The Wellsville game will tip at 6:30 p.m.
