Potters subdue rival

CALCUTTA — East Liverpool knocked off rival Beaver Local 34-32 on Monday.

Kenzie Headley led the way for the winners with 16 points.

In the fourth quarter, Beaver led 30-27 and 32-31. Kenzie Walker hit a three-pointer to give the Potters a 34-32 lead with 2:35 remaining.

Walker ended the night with 12 points.

Beaver Local falls to 2-1 on the season and is at Girard on Saturday.

Jordan Palmer had 12 points for the Beavers while Peyton Roberts added 10 points.

The Potters (1-2) host Indian Creek on Thursday.

East Liverpool won the jayvee portion, 34-14.

Tori Druschel had five points for the Beavers.

WELLSVILLE –Wellsville celebrated its first victory since Feb. 3, 2020 by topping Youngstown Chaney 44-38 on Monday.

Kaylee Rawson led the winners with 12 points. Myleigh Jackson added 10 points, while Sam Drysdale had nine points.

Wellsville is at Southern Thursday.

HANOVERTON — United’s girls basketball team topped St. Thomas Aquinas 45-33 on Monday.

United’s Addyson Blazer had 13 points, while Madison Kibler added 10 points. Taylor Cope chipped in seven points.

The Eagles are 1-1.

United won the jayvee game, 30-3. Mati Zines had nine points, while Katie Dees had eight points.

United is at Leetonia on Thursday.

SALINEVILLE — Ashley Shroades had 36 points, 16 steals, nine rebounds and two assists to lead Southern to a 74-16 win over Bridgeport on Monday.

Southern is 3-0.

Kennedy Lewis added 15 points, six rebounds, three steals and three assists. Olivia Kerna had six rebounds, four assists and three steals. Esther Forbes had six points and five boards.

Southern won the jayvee game, 25-13. Gigi Rodgers had 13 points.

Southern hosts Malvern on Wednesday.

The Golden Bears won the jayvee game 16-10. Kaitlin Shingler had five points for Leetonia.

NEW MIDDLETOWN — Springfield rolled to a 59-31 win over Crestview in its season opener on Monday.

Jacey Mullen led Springfield with 26 points. Madison Lesnak added 10.

Crestview fell to 0-3 as the Rebels had 31 turnovers.

Luvrain Gaskins had nine points for the Rebels.

Springfield won the jayvee game, 41-34.

Crestview hosts Lowellville on Thursday.

LISBON — Toronto scored a 44-37 victory over Lisbon on Monday.

Cami Freeland led the Devils (0-2) with 11 points and eight rebounds. Parker Henthorne added six rebounds. Tabby Ketchum had five steals. Madison Haifley had three blocks.

Toronto outscored the Devils 10-3 over the final period to win.

Lisbon defeated East Palestine in jayvee action 26-22.

Freeland had eight points in that game as well.

Lisbon is at Columbiana on Thursday.
