West Branch 77, Minerva 0

BELOIT –West Branch’s record-breaking night got a surprise finish.

While the Warriors were beating Alliance 77-0 on Friday, Marlington upset Carrollton 35-28 to hand West Branch the outright Eastern Buckeye Conference title.

West Branch is 9-0 and 5-0 in the league, while Minerva fell to 0-9, 0-5.

Carrollton and Salem have two losses in the league and are tied for second with one week to play.

Steven Marra had five carries for 65 yards and three touchdowns for the winners as he set the school record for touchdowns in a season with 23. Trae Hiller (2015) previously held the record with 22.

Nick Wilson had eight catches for 87 yards and two touchdowns as he tied the West Branch record for touchdown catches in a season with 14. Tom Hinton (1998) also holds the mark.

Kicker Ben Tolson broke the school record for PATs in a season with 96. Scott Loudon (1989-91) previously held the mark.

Dru DeShields passed for 262 yards and three touchdowns on the night.

Jaxon Hendershott caught five balls for 112 yards and a touchdown.

Minerva was held to 22 yards total offense.

West Branch will travel to Salem next Saturday for the regular season finale.

South Range 49, Lakeview 10

CORTLAND — After a 29-point second quarter, South Range could finally look ahead.

The Raiders disposed of winless Lakeview, 49-10, Friday to set up a long-awaited state-ranked showdown in the regular-season finale.

South Range, ranked second in Division V, will host Hubbard, ranked ninth in Division III, next Friday. Both teams are 9-0 overall and 6-0 in the Northeast 8.

The Raiders trailed 3-0 until quarterback Billy Skripac’s 10-yard run gave the Raiders a 7-0 lead with 5 seconds left in the first quarter and they never looked back.

Skripac also threw for three touchdowns in the second quarter and finished 11-of-14 passing for 221 yards.

Dylan Dominguez added 129 yards and two touchdowns on nine rushes.

The Raiders led 35-10 at halftime after Shane Lindstrom, Ayden Leon and J.D. Crouse had touchdown catches and Dominguez added a scoring run.

South Range closed the scoring in the second half with a Dominguez 65-yard touchdown run and a Tyler Remish 6-yard touchdown run.

The Raiders had a balanced attack with 218 yards rushing and 221 yards passing.

Leon totaled five receptions for 113 yards.

Lakeview, which dropped to 0-9 and 0-6 in league play, will play at Jefferson Area next Friday.
