Warriors, Raiders ranked

West Branch and South Range both had significant wins on Friday night but the unbeaten teams stayed put in the second weekly Ohio Associated Press football poll released Monday.

The Warriors are fifth in the Div. IV poll and the Raiders remained second in the Div. V poll.

West Branch (5-0) smoked Canton South 63-42 to move to 2-0 in the Eastern Buckeye Conference.

West Branch has outscored opponents 267-96 this season and has averaged 463 yards per game on offense to opponent’s 228.

Steven Marra set the Warrior single-game touchdown record with seven against the Wildcats. He now has 16 on the season.

The Warriors, who also lead the Region 13 computer ratings standings, take a break from Eastern Buckeye Conference play to host Howland (2-3) on Friday.

Region 13 members in the AP Div. IV top 10 include Cleveland Villa Angela-St. Joseph (3-0) at No. 3 and Youngstown Ursuline (4-1) at No. 8.

Salem (4-1) dropped out of the state rankings after falling to Alliance 27-21 on Friday.

The Quakers had been ranked 12th.

South Range (5-0) clipped Poland 42-34 on Friday. The Raiders are also 2-0 in the Northeast 8 and host a surprising Girard (4-1) team on Friday.

The Raiders have scored at least 40 points in each game this season and have won 13 straight at home.

Kirtland, winners of 45 straight, are No. 1 in the Div. V poll.

In Div. III, Steubenville (4-1) is 8th after a loss to Dover on Friday. Hubbard is 18th.

In Div. VI, Springfield Local (4-1) is 26th.
