EOAC golf tournament

SALEM — The fifth Eastern Ohio Athletic Conference golf tournament will be held Thursday at Salem Hills Golf & Country Club.

Teams from Columbiana, East Palestine, Leetonia, Lisbon, Southern Local, United and Wellsville will tee off beginning at 9 a.m. for the nine-hole tournament.

Columbiana has won all four EOAC titles and seven straight league titles.

Salem girls ranked No. 1

SALEM — The Salem girls cross country team is ranked No.1 in the latest Division II state poll in a vote by the Ohio Association of Track and Cross Country Coaches.

The Quakers have won all three races this season, taking the Division II-III team title at the Pat Ritchie Invitational at Walsh Jesuit on Sept. 11, topping the Ashley White Invitational at Marlington on Sept. 4 and running to victory at the Salem Early Bird Invitational at Waterworth Memorial Park on Aug. 28. Granville is ranked second and Woodridge third. Minerva is ranked ninth.

The Quakers will compete in the Spartan Invitational at Boardman High School on Saturday and will be looking for their eighth straight title at the Columbiana County Meet at East Palestine City Park on Sept. 28.

Salem girls youth soccer

SALEM — The Salem U12 girls soccer team defeated Girard, 6-1, Sunday to improve to 4-0-1 on the season.

Chaya Murray led Salem with two goals and two assists and Olivia Lewis had two goals. Addie Hopple and Ila Lee also scored. Hopple and Ava Lee each had an assist.

Salem tied Poland, 4-4, on Saturday. Ava Lee scored twice, while Nora Shean and Chaya Murray also scored for Salem. Alicea Davis and Gracee Owen each had assists.
