Lisbon grabs first victory

Morning Journal/Ron Firth Lisbon quarterback Trevor Siefke is chased by East Palestine’s Timmy Buskirk in first-quarter action Friday.

EAST PALESTINE — Lisbon used a balanced offense and a defense that didn’t break as the Blue Devils captured their first win of the season, 28-6, against East Palestine on Friday night.

Austin Dailey ran 11 times for 137 yards and scored 16 points and Trevor Siefke passed for 193 yards and three touchdowns to spark Lisbon.

The Blue Devils improve to 1-4 overall and 1-2 in the Eastern Ohio Athletic Conference, while the Bulldogs dropped o 0-6 and 0-3 in league play.

Lisbon had 189 yards rushing and 193 yards passing for 382 total yards.

East Palestine managed 187 total yards, most coming on a 13-play, 65-yard scoring drive in the second quarter.

The Bulldogs started at the Lisbon 29, 41 and 48 and their own 48-yard line on their first four possessions, but were limited to six points on quarterback Owen Jurjavcic’s 2-yard touchdown run.

Lisbon started slow, but got going on its third drive. Logan Stauffer hauled in three receptions for 68 yards, finishing it off with a 21-yard scoring catch with 1:25 left in the first quarter.

East Palestine marched right down the field on the ensuing possession to tie the game at 6-6 with 8:47 to play in the second quarter.

Siefke saved the Blue Devils on their next possesion. On fourth down at the Lisbon 44, the snap went over the punter’s head and Siefke tracked the ball down at the Lisbon 18. He scrambled through the defense and completed a 4-yard pass to Dailey.

Although Lisbon turned it over on downs, East Palestine had to start at the Lisbon 48 and was stopped inches short on fourth down.

Lisbon went 68 yards in six plays. Logan Stauffer’s catch and a horse-collar tackle moved the ball to the East Palestine 12. Dailey caught an 8-yard touchdown pass from Siefke with 12 seconds remaining. The same duo hooked up on the two-point conversion to put Lisbon ahead for good at 14-6.

In the second half, Giovanni Estrada scored on a 62-yard pass and Austin Dailey on a 60-yard run.

Both teams continue league play Friday as Lisbon hosts Wellsville and East Palestine travels to EOAC tri-leader United.
