Bryarly ready to take it to the next level

SALEM — Anthony Bryarly has been a lethal force on the gridiron for the Crestview football team. The senior has embraced challenges that have allowed him to grow and become worthy of a nod to Ohio’s roster in the Penn-Ohio Stateline Classic.

Bryarly had to switch teams in the middle of his high school career, which gave him a different perspective regarding football.

“It was a little different, because I went to Columbiana for my first two years of high school,” he said. “Then, I went to Crestview the last two years, so it was a little weird transitioning between schools. But, the transition really helped me out when it came to getting ready to play football. I got pretty serious with it my junior year and went from there.”

Bryarly posted 49 tackles and four sacks for the Rebels last season as they went 7-2.

“I just told myself ‘be a man, just do it.’ Don’t complain, just do it, and show up,” Bryarly said about his mental approach to playing football.

The defensive end will continue his athletic and academic career at Grove City College next season. He said the idea of moving on to the next level definitely gave him a boost in his preparation.

“It really got me disciplined,” Bryarly said. “There’s more lifting, more conditioning every single practice. You have to be mentally prepared for everything. It just helped me out a lot.”

With the Penn-Ohio showdown set to take place on Thursday, Bryarly is not taking anything for granted.

“I’m looking forward to the memories that I’ll have the next two weeks. It’s a short two weeks, but it’s going to be a fun two weeks. I’m looking forward to making a whole mess of new friendships,” he said.

The Penn-Ohio Stateline Classic will be played at 7 p.m. Thursday at Patterson Field in East Liverpool.
