Mathews 1, West Branch 0

BELOIT — Regional qualifiers West Branch and Mathews stayed sharp with a regular-season game Monday.

Becca Landis and Emma Gates combined on a two-hitter as state-ranked Mathews scored a run in the seventh inning to beat West Branch, 1-0.

Landis went 2-for-4 for the Mustangs.

Destany Blake and Ryley Pittman had West Branch’s hits.

Both teams open regional play at Firestone Stadium in Akron. West Branch (23-8) plays Richfield Revere at 5 p.m. Wednesday in a Division II semifinal, while fifth-ranked Mathews (25-4) meets East Canton at 2 p.m. Thursday in a Division IV semifinal.

Oak Glen 12, Brooke 1

NEW CUMBERLAND, W.Va. –Sydney Brown went 3 for 3 with a RBI for Oak Glen as it dominated Brooke, 12-1, on Monday.

Sarah Brown added four RBIs and a pair of hits for the winners, 21-0.

Maddie McKay and Lizzie Kell each posted two RBIs for the Bears as they won via mercy rule.

McKay also pitched four innings and allowed one run on two hits and struck out five.

Oak Glen hosts Wheeling Park on Wednesday.
