HANOVERTON — The United softball team ended the 2021 season on a hitting streak.
Sophomore Tori Firth hit a long home run and seniors Savannah Burton, Madison Boyle and Kassidy Everhart followed with singles in their final swings in a four-run sixth inning as United pulled away from Malvern, 11-2, Saturday.
United won eight of its last 11 games to finish with a 13-12 record and finished third in the Eastern Ohio Athletic Conference, trailing league champions Lisbon and Columbiana.
The Eagles had a balanced effort led by Boyle with two triples, a single, scored three runs and drove in another. Savannah Burton collected two doubles, a single and scored three runs. Firth had two hits and two runs, Samantha Lippiatt two doubles. Colby Burton had an RBI triple to deep right center, while Everhart and Brielle Rose each singled and drove in two runs.
Firth struck out 13 in the complete-game victory to go along with her 10th home run of the season.
United trailed 2-1 in the fourth inning until Savannah Burton doubled, Boyle tripled and an Everhart grounder gave the Eagles the lead for good at 3-2.
Malvern, which lost 16-6 to United in five innings Thursday, drops to 1-24.

Ursuline 4, West Branch 3
West Branch got ready for the district tournament with a pair of regular-season games on the road Saturday.
West Branch traveled to Salem for a 13-2 six-inning win, and then dropped a 4-3 decision in eight innings to state-ranked Youngstown Ursuline at Springfield Local High School.
The Warriors (21-7) will will face Aurora in a Division II district semifinalat 4:30 p.m. Tuesday at the Jefferson Little League Complex.
Jordan Anderson went 3-for-4 with two doubles against Ursuline. Destany Rylee Pittman went 2-for-2 with a solo home run and Destany Blake added two hits.
Earlier Saturday, Uruline suffered its second loss of the season by falling to Edision, 12-10. Hannah Christoff drove in seven runs for Edison, which opened up an 11-3 lead heading into the firfth inning.
Against Salem, West Branch’s Jacy Thomas homered, singled twice and drove in three runs. Anderson went 3-for-4 again with two doubles. Sydney Mercer drove in two runs with a double and a single and Sam Morris had two hits and an RBI.
Mack Zumbar homered for the Quakers. Dorothy Moore and Kylie Skinner added singles.
Salem drops to 7-19.
