First league loss for Blue Devils

YOUNGSTOWN — Lisbon suffered its first Eastern Ohio Athletic Conference loss of the season as Valley Christian rolled to a 73-42 win on Friday.

Lisbon falls to 9-3 and 6-1. Valley is 5-2 and 4-1. Southern, on pause because of COVID-19, has no losses in the league.

Blayne Brownfield led the Devils with 26 points and six rebounds. Ryan McCullough had five rebounds and four assists.

Valley won the jayvee game, 58-26. Austin Dailey had 12 points for the Devils.

Lisbon hosts Leetonia on Tuesday.

WELLSVILLE — Wellsville used a team effort to overcome Columbiana’s 12 three-pointers for a 57-49 win Friday night.

Luke Green scored 18 of his 20 team-high points in the second half, Jaxon Brewer totaled 16 points and 13 rebounds and Isaiah Greathouse had 11 points and five assists for the Tigers.

Wellsville improves to 5-2 overall and 3-1 in the Eastern Ohio Athletic Conference.

Columbiana’s Dalton Whitehair hit seven three-pointers, including four in the first quarter, for a game-high 21 points. Freshman Anthony Hall followed with 14 points and six assists and Tyler Andersen dished out seven assists

Columbiana won the junior varsity game, 53-42, behind Devin Daugherty’s 15 points.

Wellsville will play at Beaver Local tonight, while Columbiana travels to Valley Christian on Tuesday.

WARREN — Crestview escaped Champion with a 45-42 win on Friday night in Mahoning Valley Athletic Conference play.

Champion attempted a three with two seconds left in an attempt to tie but it did not fall.

Anthony Cusick had five threes and 15 points to spark the Rebels. Drake Golden had 16 points and 10 rebounds.

Crestview won the jayvee portion 38-30. Matthew Strank had 12 points for the Rebels.

ATWATER — Waterloo struck down Sebring 70-37 on Friday in Mahoning Valley Athletic Conference play.

Waterloo is 7-1 and 6-0 in the league. Sebring is 3-12 and 0-9.

Dylan Johnson had nine points to lead the Trojans.

Sebring hosts Ashtabula St. John today.

NILES — Eli Taylor struck for 19 points, while Mike Patrone tallied 12 as South Range rolled to a 66-37 win over Niles on Friday in Northeast 8 play.

Corey Penick added 10 points for the Raiders, 5-7, 4-3.

South Range won the jayvee portion 55-27.

South Range hosts Salem today.

Crestview 64, Mathews 47

COLUMBIANA — Addison Bandy scored all of her season-high 13 points in the first half to spark the Rebels to a 64-47 win over Mathews on Friday night.

The Rebels opened up a 23-6 lead in the first quarter and a 38-20 advantage at halftime to improve to 9-6 on the season.

Kristy Perry totaled 15 points, 10 rebounds, four assists and six blocks in the winning effort. Ashton Hughes added 10 points and three steals; Mara Halas eight points, six assists and two blocks; Karsyn Moore eight points; Payton Huff five rebounds; and Bandy four assists, three steals and two blocks.

The Rebels also won the junior varsity game, 35-21, as Katie Lissi and Karsyn Moore each scored nine points.

Crestview will host Western Reserve at 11 a.m. today.
