Potters struggle on the road

WINTERSVILLE — The Indian Creek girls basketball team’s Big 3 paced the squad to a decisive 68-22 victory over East Liverpool on Thursday.

Kylie Kiger produced a game-high 21 points and eight assists. Taylor Jones nearly had a triple-double, finishing with 20 points, 14 rebounds and eight steals. Makenzie Taylor, who missed most of the Redskins’ season opener after sustaining concussion-like symptons, tallied 11 points. Also for Creek, Hailey Clark added eight points and six steals.

Assistant Ron Tweedy led the Redskins, as head coach Steve Eft is in quarantine due to COVID-related issues.

For the Potters, Mikayla Reed collected 10 points. Alessandra Ferrazzano and Gabrielle Green each scored four.

Creek (2-0) travels to Shadyside on Saturday.

The Redskins also won the jayvee game, 50-28. Maddie Ballato led Creek with 12 points. East Liverpool’s Kenzie Walker had nine.

United 60, Wellsville 23

HANOVERTON — United’s girls basketball team put on a defensive display in the first half as the Eagles held Wellsville to just two points in a 60-23 victory on Thursday.

United led 29-2 at the break.

For the Eagles, Mickey Shasteen scored nine of her game-high 21 in the first quarter.

Grace Knight and Taylor Cope had seven points each.

Camryn Jackson had five points for the Tigers.

BOYS

Lisbon 70, Jefferson County Christian 27

LISBON–The Lisbon Blue Devils boys basketball team started off their season strong, defeating Jefferson County Christian 70-27 on Thursday night to move to 1-0 on the season.

Ryan McCullough led the Blue Devils with 26 points and four three-pointers. He also recorded four assists. Blayne Brownfield added 16 points, eight rebounds and five blocks and freshman Trevor Siefke added nine points, three assists and three steals.

Adam Spencer had six points and nine rebounds.

Lisbon held Jefferson to just five third quarter points and single digit point totals in every quarter in a strong defensive effort.

Lisbon is next at home against Crestview on Saturday.

In jayvee action, Lisbon won 49-37. For Lisbon, Logan Stauffer led the way with 10 points.
