Matthews powers Heartland over Red Devils

COLUMBIANA– The Heartland Christian girls basketball team picked up its first win of the season Monday night, defeating Campbell Memorial 49-20.

For Heartland, Madi Matthews had 17 points and knocked down three of the teams seven three-pointers. Sophia Stambaugh and Julia Reynolds had eight points each.

For Campbell, Camilo Marshall had 10 points to lead the way.

Heartland hosts Grand Valley on Saturday.

Columbiana 48, United 42

HANOVERTON–The United girls basketball team fell to Columbiana 48-42 in a tightly contested game on Monday night. United scored 27 of its 42 points in the second half but could not mount a comeback.

For United, Madison Kibler had 14 points and hit the only two three-pointers for the Eagles.

For Columbiana, Tori Long and Grace Witmer had 40 of the teams 48 points, scoring 21 and 19 points, respectively.

United is next at home against Crestview on Monday.

Columbiana is next at Leetonia on Thursday.

CALCUTTA –The Indian Creek girls basketball team rolled to a 57-24 victory over Beaver Local on Monday.

Kylie Kiger led the Redskins (4-0) with a game-high 17 points. Taylor Jones was right behind her with 16 points. Mackenzie Taylor scored 12 and Hailey Clark eight. The team did not hit a 3-point field goal.

For the Beavers, Elizabeth Kolkowski had a team-high 14 points.

Indian Creek travels to Dover on Wednesday.

Beaver Local is at Buckeye Local on Thursday.

Indian Creek won the jayvee portion 49-30.

SEBRING– The Sebring girls basketball team fell to Western Reserve 80-20 on Monday night.

For Sebring, Emma Whaley led the way with 17 of the teams 20 points.

For Western Reserve (1-0), Kennedy Miller had 21 points and Danielle Vuletich had 15 points.

No jayvee game was played.

Sebring will host Lowellville on Thursday.

GREENFORD– The South Range girls basketball team picked up its second win in a row after defeating Struthers 60-33 on Monday night. in Northeast 8 action.

For the Raiders, Izzy Lamparty had 19 points to lead all scorers. Lexi Giles had 15 points and Gabby Lamparty had 13 points.

For Struthers (1-1), Emma Elia was the only scorer in double digits, recording 10 points. Emma Morris added seven points.

South Range had 23 field goals compared to 12 for Struthers.

South Range is at Ursuline on Thursday.

COLUMBIANA–Crestview girls basketball fell to 1-1 after losing to Ursuline 46-39 on Monday night.

For the Rebels, Krista Perry had 18 points, 12 rebounds and four steals. Emily Hill added nine points. Addison Bandy recorded four steals in a strong defensive effort.

Crestview led 21-18 at the half but Ursuline outscored the Rebels 20-7 in the fourth quarter to take the win.

For Ursuline, Rachel Fabry had 11 points and knocked down two three-pointers. Cara McNally and Anisah Moorman added nine points each.

Crestview is next at home against Cardinal Mooney on Thursday.

In jayvee action, Crestview won 35-19. Emily Downey had a team-high seven points.

URSULINE: 9-9-8-20–46
