East Palestine handles Bristol

EAST PALESTINE — East Palestine’s boys soccer team advanced with a 2-1 win over Bristol on Tuesday in a Div. III sectional opener.

The Bulldogs, the No. 17 seed, will travel to top-seed Crestview for a 4 p.m. game on Saturday.

East Palestine is 3-11.

Salem 1, Ravenna 1

SALEM — Salem’s boys soccer team advanced after a penalty shootout win over Ravenna on Tuesday in a Div. II sectional opener at Sebo Stadium.

The game was tied at 1 after regulation and after the 30 minutes of extra time. The Quakers foiled the Ravens 5-4 in the penalty shootout.

Salem made the first two kicks, missed the third, made the fourth, missed the fifth and made the last two. Ravenna made the first, missed the second and third, made three straight and missed the last one.

Jacob McLachlan scored on an assist from Hunter Griffith in regulation for the Quakers. AR Sharma scored the winning penalty kick.

Salem (8-8-1) is a top-seed Howland on Saturday in the sectional final.

West Branch 1,

Southeast 0

RAVENNA — One goal was all it took as West Branch’s boys soccer team took out Ravenna Southeast 1-0 on Tuesday in a Div. II sectional opener.

West Branch is the No. 13 seed, while Southeast was the No. 12 seed.

West Branch is 8-8-1 and will travel to No. 8 seed Lakeview on Saturday.
