Potters clinch NET title

EAST PALESTINE — The East Liverpool girls tennis team beat East Palestine, 5-0, to clinch the North East Tennis League title Monday.

The Potters, now 9-1 on the season, will host Beaver Local next Monday.

FIRST SINGLES: McKenzie Harman (EL) def. Christina Adam, 6-2, 6-1.

SECOND SINGLES: Mallory Barnhouse (EL) def. Alexis Schnelle, 6-0, 6-0.

THIRD SINGLES: Isabella Morris (EL) won by forfeit.

FIRST DOUBLES: Hannah Swigert-Haley Spahr (EL) def. Katherine Simon-Alex Siracuse, 6-1, 6-2.

SECOND DOUBLES: Aidreanna Green-Mara Pine (EL) def. Ivy Burkett-Claire Evans, 2-6, 6-0, 6-3.

McDonald fries United

MCDONALD– McDonald blanked United, 5-0, in girls tennis action at Woodland Park Monday.

The Eagles will host Poland at 4:30 p.m. today.

SECOND SINGLES: Naomi Domitrovich (M) def. Julia Bricker, 6-1, 6-0.

Reds sweep Pirates

CINCINNATI (AP) — Mike Moustakas hit a big three-run homer in the fifth inning, and the Cincinnati Reds beat the Pittsburgh Pirates 9-4 on Monday night for a doubleheader sweep.

Moustakas drove in Shogo Akiyama and Eugenio Suarez with a two-out shot to center off Nik Turley (0-2). Pittsburgh had just taken a 4-3 lead on rookie Ke’Bryan Hayes’ two-run shot with two out in the top half of the inning.
