SPORTS BRIEFING

EOAC games will be first

It didn’t take the Eastern Ohio Athletic Conference long to decide on the 2020 football schedule.

Athletic directors from the eight league schools held a Zoom meeting Sunday night and decided to play the league games first.

“Everybody knows who they are playing the first six weeks,” EOAC commissioner Howard Friend said.

All Ohio high school football teams are scrambling after the OHSAA announced Friday there will be six regular-season games before the playoffs begin on Oct. 9.

Because of the schedule change, Valley Christian will join Columbiana, East Palestine, Leetonia, Lisbon, Southern, United and Wellsville as the newest league member this football season.

When teams are done with the playoffs, the EOAC is hoping schools can play their seventh league games.

The first Friday night games are scheduled for Aug. 28. Some may be moved to Thursday or Saturday due to the availability of officials.
