Coaches award 22 scholarships
LISBON — The Columbiana County Classic didn’t go on, but the reason for the game continued.
The Columbiana County Basketball Coaches Association awarded at least 22 scholarships to county seniors.
Receiving scholarships were Beaver Local’s Madison Cline and Luke Chetock; Columbiana’s Grace Hammond and Ryan Fahs; Crestview’s Maidson Wick; East Liverpool’s Emma Ludwig and Brennan O’Hara; East Palestine’s Kenzee Johnston; Heartland Christian’s Sydney Ogden and Cade Roth; Leetonia’s Anna Buffone and Luke Gregorino; Lisbon’s Maddie Liberati and Nic Mundy; Salem’s Jaden Hamilton and Jaren Snyder; Southern Local’s Mikayla McCulley and Jayce Sloan; United’s Harley Salmen and Zachary Stock; and Wellsville’s Cameron Carlevale and Charles Heffner.
Scholarships were to be awarded during the Columbiana County Classic on March 15, but that was canceled due to the coronavirus pandemic.
The Columbiana County Classic is the coaches association’s fundraiser. Coaches are asking sponsors to honor their pledges in order that they continue their scholarship efforts.
In the 35 years of the Columbiana County Classic, the coaches association has awarded nearly $450,000 in scholarships.
