Warriors seventh in final poll

COLUMBUS — West Branch remained seventh in the final Associated Press Division II high school girls basketball poll, but the Warriors aren’t celebrating.

West Branch had its 11-game winning streak snapped with a 50-43 loss to McDonald on Monday. The Eastern Buckeye Conference champion Warriors are 18-3 heading into Thursday’s home game against Marlington.

McDonald (19-2) and Western Reserve (17-4) shared the Mahoning Valley Athletic Conference title and an 11th-place state ranking in Division IV.

They are the top two seeds in the upcoming Mineral Ridge Division IV sectional-district tournament. They will finish out the regular season with big games Wednesday as Western Reserve will host Eastern Ohio Athletic Conference champion Columbiana and McDonald travels to Crestview.

Maplewood (20-1) dropped six spots to 13th in Division IV after suffering its first loss, 40-37, at Bristol on Feb. 6.
