Clippers notch 18th win

COLUMBIANA — Columbiana scored at least 20 points in each of the last three quarters to pull away to a 74-44 win at Heartland Christian on Tuesday.

The Clippers, who shot 51 percent from the field, up their mark to 18-3 on the season.

Matthew Mazei totaled 12 points and 10 rebounds and Ryan Fahs scored 12 points for the Clippers. Carter Pasco added 10 points and Hunter Zentner collected nine rebounds and six assists.

After leading 12-11 in the first quarter, Columbiana opened up a 33-23 halftime lead and a 53-30 advantage after three quarters.

Cade Roth, Joey Donofrio and Ronnie Matthews all had 10 points for Heartland.

Columbiana also won the junior varsity game, 47-33. Nick Million scored 11 points and Tyler Andersen 10 points for the Clippers. Luke Reynolds had 10 points for the Lions.

Heartland will play at Leetonia on Friday, while Columbiana hosts West Branch next Tuesday.

Western Reserve 45

BERLIN CENTER –Hunter Griffith had 17 points as Salem earned its fourth win of the season with a 55-45 win over Western Reserve on Tuesday.

The Quakers are 4-15 and are at rival and Eastern Buckeye Conference champion West Branch on Friday. Drew Weir added 16 points.

Western Reserve got 24 points from Todd Henning. The Blue Devils are 6-14 and are at Waterloo on Friday.

Salem won the jayvee game, 57-47. Logan Blissenbach had a game high 21 points for Salem. Hayden Fellows led Western Reserve with 14 points.

HANOVERTON –Lordstown carded a 54-48 win over United on Tuesday in boys basketball action.

Nate Miller and Steffen Jarrett led the Eagles with 13 points each. Jarrett added nine rebounds.

United hosts Lisbon on Friday.

WELLSVILLE — Justin Wright had 23 points and Darien Suggs added 20 points, seven rebounds and seven assists as Wellsville thwarted Indian Creek 69-55 on Tuesday in OVAC consolation pool play.

Luke Green added 15 points for the 10-10 Tigers. Troy Carter had four assists.

Wellsville is at Steubenville Central on Friday.

The Tigers won the jayvee game, 35-25.

EAST PALESTINE — Vinny Ballone scored 18 points and Anthony Lucente added 15 points in Lowellville’s 66-45 win over East Palestine on Tuesday.

Jonathan Bertovich led the Bulldogs (3-15) with a game-high 23 points. Zion Figley added eight.

Lowellville also won the junior varsity game, 49-26.

East Palestine will host Salem on Tuesday.

ST. CLAIRSVILLE — Luke Chetock had 17 points but it wasn’t enough to spur on a Beaver Local win as the Beavers fell to St. Clairsville 71-64 on Tuesday in OVAC consolation pool play.

Nate Barber had 15 points for the Beavers.

The Red Devils outscored the Beavers by six in the final frame to secure the win.

Beaver Local falls to 12-9 and will host Brooke on Friday.

Ryan Cunningham had 16 points and Ethan Agnew added 13 more for the Beavers in the 69-57 jayvee loss.
