Boys hoops action tips off in Lisbon

LISBON — Lisbon junior Blayne Brownfield tried his best to put the Blue Devils into the championship game of the fourth annual Lisbon Tip-Off Classic.

Brownfield’s personal-high 37 points weren’t enough as the Blue Devils opened the season with a 72-60 loss to Valley Christian on Friday.

Senior Zach Rasile also scored 37 points in Friday’s opener in leading McDonald past Heartland Christian, 97-41.

Those two 37-point efforts are the most by any individual in the Tip-Off Classic.

Action continues tonight at Nace Gymnasium with Lisbon playing Heartland Christian in the consolation game at 6 p.m., followed by McDonald vs. Valley Christian in the championship game at approximately 7:30 p.m.

Tyrone Lindsey, Mark Revere and Lohran Brown hit three-pointers for a 13-0 run in the second quarter that gave Valley a 38-20 lead and control against Lisbon.

Revere led the Eagles with 26 points, followed by Brown with 18 and Jaloni Harris 13.

Brown scored 19 of his 37 points in the first half as Lisbon trailed 38-26. Also for Lisbon, Adam Spencer scored eight points and Kaden Crawford grabbed seven rebounds.

Rasile — who has more than 2,000 career points — scored 16 points in the second quarter as McDonald raced to a 57-18 halftime lead. Jake Portelese followed with 21 points, Dominic Carkido 16 and Ziod Aziz 11.

Leaders for Valley were Steven Baker with 11 points and Joey Donofrio with 10.

Sebring 73, Leetonia 41

LEETONIA–The Sebring boys basketball team pounded Leetonia 73-41 in opening night action Friday.

Carson Rouse sparked the Trojans with 17 points and 12 rebounds. Jake Hunter added 18 points, six assists and six steals. Connor Shepherd added 14 points and eight assists.

Jordan Baker led the Bears with 11 points.

Leetonia won the jv game 41-38.

Sebring is at Lordstown on Tuesday for a varsity-only game beginning at 6 p.m. Leetonia hosts Lisbon Friday.

BELOIT — Nick Everett had 18 points as West Branch’s boys basketball team opened the season with a 54-48 win over Austintown Fitch on Friday.

Reese Leone added 14 points for the Warriors who trailed by seven after the first quarter.

A 13-point swing in the third quarter switched the momentum firmly into the Warriors’ direction.

Nick Pidgeon had 13 points.

West Branch hosts East Palestine on Tuesday.

CAMPBELL — Ryan Gordon and Noah Klasic had 13 points each as Western Reserve’s boys basketball team opened the season with a 55-39 win over Campbell on Friday night.

Todd Henning added eight points for the Blue Devils.

Reserve won the jayvee game, 57-50. Gabe Platt had 25 points for the winners.

Reserve hosts Columbiana on Tuesday.

BOWERSTON — Southern jumped out to a 30-6 lead in the first quarter and beat Conotton Valley, 96-53, in Friday’s season opener.

Cam Grodhaus led the charge with a gane-high 22 points,eight assists and four rebounds.

Eleven players scored the Indians, including Brock Smalley with 16 points and seven steals, Tanner Patterson with 14 points and Jayce Sloan with 10 points, Jayce Sloan seven rebounds and four assists.

Colton Soukup added eight points, Sam May five rebounds and Bradly Sloan three steals.

Garson Imes topped Conotton Valleyw ith 19 points.

The Indians also won the junior varsity game, 69-30, as Brady Ketchum scored 22 points and Colton Soukup 13.

Southern will host Beaver Local on Tuesday.
