Welch’s 100th leads Bulldogs

EAST PALESTINE–The seventh-seeded East Palestine soccer team kicked off the postseason with a 5-0 win over 10th-seeded Waterloo Tuesday in a Div. III sectional opener.

Josh Welch scored his 100th career goal for the Bulldogs as part of a two-goal, two assist night. Brandon Turcola added two goals and an assist, while Schaelee Guy had one goal.

Blaze Egan had one assist. Matt Garcia had three saves in goal.

The Bulldogs travel to second-seeded United for a sectional final at 1 p.m. Saturday.

Heartland 6,

Wellsville 0

COLUMBIANA–The sixth-seeded Heartland Christian boys soccer team rolled past 11th-seeded Wellsville 6-0 in a Div. III sectional opener Tuesday at Crestview High School.

Hayden Stewart paced the Lions with three goals and an assist. Robby Wilson added one goal. Brayden Cross and Matthew DeNiro each had one goal and one assist. Sebastian Sharo, Garret Rossi and Micah Direnzo each had one assist.

Zach Labon had four saves in goal.

Heartland is at third-seeded Crestview for a sectional final at 1 p.m. Saturday.

West Branch 2, Niles 1

BELOIT–The eighth-seeded West Branch boys soccer team defeated ninth-seeded Niles 2-1 in a Div. II sectional opener Tuesday at West Branch High School.

The eighth-seeded Warriors will travel to top-seeded Howland for a sectional final at 1 p.m. Saturday.

Avery Francis and Luke Johnson each had one goal for West Branch. Justin Cederbloom and Jared Butler provided one assist each.

Jeffery Legros had six saves in goal.

Rootstown 4, Salem 2

ROOTSTOWN — Salem’s boys soccer team saw its season come to an end with a 4-2 loss to Rootstown on Tuesday in a Div. II sectional contest.

Salem ends its season 4-13.

Jacob McLachlan had a an assist and goal for the Quakers. Miguel Lorenzo added a goal. Max Kemats had 10 saves.

Rootstown is at Lakeview on Saturday.
