Salem spikes East Liverpool

SALEM–The Salem volleyball team defeated East Liverpool 22-25, 25-14, 25-20, 25-23 in the Kent State Columbiana County Classic Monday at Cabas Gymnasium.

The Quakers improve to 15-5 overall.

Elly Exline powered Salem with 22 kills, two blocks and 20 digs, while Hayden Carner added 12 kills and four blocks.

Also for the Quakers, Jaden Hamilton had 11 kills and three blocks. Jenna McClish led the defense with 17 digs. Kaylee Freeman handed out 38 assists and also accounted for six aces.

Kent State’s Salem and East Liverpool campuses was to award $500 scholarships to four high school seniors at the match.

The Quakers also won the junior varsity match in three sets. Alivia Davidson led the way with five aces.

The Salem freshman team won in two games. Kylie Skinner led the Quakers with 13 digs.

The Quakers return to Eastern Buckeye Conference play tonight at Canton South.

Heartland Christian 3, Lowellville 0

COLUMBIANA–The Heartland Christian volleyball team kept rolling with a 25-21, 25-20, 25-16 win over Lowellville Monday.

The Lions are now 18-3 overall.

Emma Hall had 20 kills and 14 digs for Heartland. Lydia Wilson added seven points, four aces and 30 assists. Dara Arthurs had seven kills, 15 points, five aces and seven digs.

Lowellvile swept the junior varsity match. Amelia Banner had five kills for the Lions. Jorden Webb had five points and two kills.

Mineral Ridge 3, Columbiana 1

COLUMBIANA–Mineral Ridge defeated Columbiana 25-14, 15-25, 25-19, 25-14 in volleyball action Monday.

The Rams, who are the top seed in the upcoming Div. IV Columbiana district tournament, improve to 19-1. Columbiana falls to 10-12.

For the Clippers, Marissa Makosky had five kills, seven assists, two aces and eight points. Tori Long added five kills and eight digs, while Julia Rapp had three kills and two blocks.

Also for Columbiana, Grace Witmer had two kills, 11 assists and seven points. Madison Moser had two kills, two blocks and five points.

Mineral Ridge won the JV match, 25-22, 25-21.

Tomi Ross had seven points, two kills and three aces for the Clippers. Addie Zohnd had three kills and a block.

Columbiana hosts Campbell in Div. III sectional action next Tuesday.

Waterloo 3, East Palestine 1

ATWATER–The East Palestine volleyball team fell to Waterloo 18-25, 25-14, 25-18, 25-12 on Monday.

The Bulldogs are now 13-7 overall.

Olivia Figley had 10 kills and four blocks for East Palestine, while Morgan Cheurco had 21 assists and three points. Jade McBride added seven points and five digs.

East Palestine is at Youngstown East today.
